Sixers forward Marreesse Speights will be out 6 to 8 weeks with a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee, the team said today.

Speights was injured in the fourth quarter of the Sixers' loss at Chicago on Saturday night and did not return to the game.

He underwent an MRI exam when the team returned from Chicago and was examined by team physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy.

The injury is a substantial blow to the Sixers because Speights has been one of the team's best players early this season. He is averaging 13 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in 23.4 minutes per game off the bench.

Maybe we will lose every game now.

Forward Marreese Speights to miss 6-8 weeks; MRI reveals a partial tear of the Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) in left knee.

Terrible news for the Sixers. Speights was really playing well to start off the season and he will definitely be missed.

On the bright side though, this may open things up for Elton Brand. With Speights out of the lineup he will be getting more minutes and probably a lot more touches. This may be the opportunity that he needs to get his game back in order.

Sucks for Speights though. He was having a very good start to the season.

EDIT: Just noticed that this was already made, can somebody merge/delete this thread?

Blessing in disguise. Now they are forced to use Brand, I think he can be effective.

I see no way this is a blessing in disguise unless these next extra losses in the next 2 months add up to a better draft pick that turns out to be amazing. Speights has been the best player other than Iguodala this year. The best frontcourt has been when him and Brand are out there together anyway.
