NBA 'Watchability' Scale

Dec 14, 2009 - Fact: I watch too much basketball. Way too much. I'm addicted to NBA League Pass and I'm not sure how healthy it is.

If I have free time, I'm watching NBA League Pass. Running on the treadmill or doing situps? NBA League Pass is on. Laying down on the couch? NBA League Pass is on. Lying in bed getting ready to go to sleep? NBA League Pass is on. Writing a column for SBNation.com? NBA League Pass is on (true story).

You all, I assume, will not be so obsessive. You might have an hour a week when you can conceivably watch an NBA game. There are so many of them each night and so many of them during the season that you're probably a bit overwhelmed. So how can you get the best bang for your (metaphorical) buck?

Here's one NBA addict's attempt to rank each of the 30 NBA teams in terms of "watchability," so you can make your decision on what games to watch. What is "watchability?" Much like pornography, you can't define it, but you know it when you see it. Winning is not necessarily the main determining factor. There are bad teams that are eminently watchable, and there are good teams that are really tough on the eyes.

Top 15:

1. Suns

2. Lakers

3. Rockets

4. Thunder

5. Celtics

6. Nuggets

7. Magic

8. Mavericks

9. Raptors

10. Kings

11. Bucks

12. Warriors

13. Wizards

14. Hawks

15. Jazz

Lol, seriously....would you rather watch LeBron's athleticism or watch the slow Celtics play. If the Cavs aren't in the top ten the list is a throw away. Seriously.....at that point I'm not being a homer, how is watching LeBron more boring than at least half the league.

Because people tune in to watch a team sport, not a one man show. The teams at the top of this list epitomise team basketball; Cleveland does not.

fixed, so the way other teams play are fake? it just doesn't count

I'm sorry I didn't word my statement to your reading level, next time I will post more accurately and to the point.

The Celtics (as someone said) are the epitome of team basketball. They run their offense to near perfection, their defense resembles the golden days of the league, which is what "most" fans want to see.

As for the Spurs, I don't know why they aren't listed high, it's not my list.

What? Cleveland has to have one of the most BORING offenses in the league. Seriously, what is the joy of watching Lebron dribble around for 20 seconds? He gets a few Sportscenter highlights but that is about it.

Great to see Houston high up on the list, pretty amazing considering it was just a few years ago that Houston had a plain offense when Jeff Van Gundy was running the show.
