Knee infection sidelines Celtics' Pierce for two weeks

BOSTON -- Celtics forward Paul Pierce had fluid drained from his right knee Wednesday and will miss the next two weeks.

Pierce did not make the flight to Orlando for a Christmas Day game against the Magic, one day after Kevin Garnett missed his first game of the season with a thigh bruise. Instead, team doctor Brian McKeon drained fluid from Pierce's knee at New England Baptist Hospital.

The Celtics are on a six-day, four-game road trip that will also take them to the Clippers, Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns before returning home for a Jan. 2 game against Toronto.

Pierce could be back for the Jan. 6 game at Miami.

Do you think the injury had anything to do with the loss to the Clippers?

partially. But due to circumstances only, the ball would have been in Pierce's hands late as opposed to Rondo. Pierce wouldn't have missed both FT's, or we wouldn't have been in that position in the 1st place.

However, we choked that game so hard being up 90-87 with a minute left. We SHOULD have closed it out, but props to the Clips for taking advantage of our pathetic play late.
