If the trade goes down and Haywood ends up in Houston, where does that leave the Rockets with Yao Ming next season?

Would you say that Yao Ming becomes expendable? He has a player option for next season, $17.6 million, that I expect him to take.

Not at all, Haywood is no where near the level of a rested Yao Ming. Haywood is looking to get paid next season and assuming he does resign with Houston then he were merely be Yao's backup, which I don't see him being too happy with.

Haywood probably wouldn't resign with Houston after this season, but it all depends on Yao's health. If it is known at the end of the season that Yao will not be healthy for the next season, they will definitely make a strong push to resign Haywood. Thus, making Yao expendable or potentially retiring if his injury won't recover fully.

Yao has been coming along nicely.
