Connecticut elementary school shooting
Real Deal replied to Real Deal's topic in Off-Topic Discussion Forum
And really quick...giving the stabbings, to elementary school kids, as examples of how you can do harm without a gun...it's kind of cheap. Any man can go to a playground and snap kids' necks with his bare hands. Let's go back to James Holmes (Batman shooter)...would he have had much success with a knife in a movie theater, with adults? Nope. How easy would it be for a wrestler to go into a meet and shoot up everyone in it? What if he tried killing everyone in that meet with a knife? If all of these people can act out ANYTHING, in any way, without a gun...then why is it so important that we NEED guns to go to war against a corrupt government? Can't we use crossbows, knives, and rocks? Nope...we need guns because they are simply more lethal...much easier to use to kill groups of people with, create far more separation, etc. Sure, a man will enter an elementary school with a knife, against pencil-wielding children and teachers that are usually female (at that grade level). You think that same man would be ignorant enough to walk into a frat house with a knife? Nope, he's taking an assault rifle, and people will scatter as he shoots them in their backs. Don't compare the two, ever. -

Nah, but if you legalize it, and no sarcasm here, you'll see more people smoking it + those people smoking it more often (not having to worry about drug tests at their job, for instance). It works that way with most everything, too. As a diabetic, I can't eat much sugar. If my girlfriend goes to the store and buys a ton of cookies and donuts, I'm more than likely going to eat some of them. If she doesn't, I'll probably eat one or two when I'm somewhere else, but if they aren't sitting in my kitchen at 1 AM, I'll be fixing a bowl of cereal instead...not driving to Wal-Mart to get some. Make guns harder to get. Make it a long process to get a license/permit to buy and shoot. It's not going to stop Lanza from taking his mother's guns (although she may not have them if it takes more effort), but you'll see less of this going on in the long run. Few talk about this...but when the "Batman shooter" went online and ordered all of his ammo, guns and military gear...he received it within a week, I believe. What if new gun laws make it FAR tougher for him? It takes longer to get things like that, and MAYBE that extra week (or longer) gives a roommate or family member time and reason to get him checked out. Same with smoking weed. If it was tougher to get, you'd smoke it less. Logically. At one point, you may even stop. Additionally, guns and ammo would likely become more expensive, the tougher they get. Don't ban, but things need to change. -

Point is, it shouldn't take five minutes for anyone to buy a gun and ammo. It shouldn't take a simple online order to land legitimate military gear and weapons. I don't think guns should be banned, but I also don't think everyone should have access to one so easily. I read a suggestion that teachers should have guns. Nah. I went to school with kids that went ballistic in classrooms, and that were expelled and sent to a detention center...and that was back when this wasn't so common. Having a gun in every classroom, locked up or not, doesn't sit well with me. An irresponsible teacher, leaving a drawer open, keys on the desk, etc...can unintentionally be responsible for a classroom turning into multiple funerals. -

That Facebook profile was real. Facebook actually deleted my status message while I was getting my hair cut...and when I went to see if the profile was still available, it was gone as well. It had the same picture they were showing on CNN, by the way. EDIT: Who knows... Either way, profile is gone. -

Big difference here, though. Melo and Amare wouldn't have the green light to stand up to him and say what they please. Kobe is much different, and the front office will have Kobe's back on that. Maybe even Dwight, honestly, because right now, he has all the leverage in the world.

Police were telling all of the kids to close their eyes as they were led out of the building, because of the bodies and blood laying in the halls. -

A 24-year old shooter, bullet-proof vest, four weapons, shooting up 5-11 year olds. What a coward. -

Nearly 20 children dead, still reporting...links to come. Disgusting.

Right now, the focus will be to bring in Delonte West or Eddie House (no idea why they'd want House, but whatever), or make a trade for Calderon (ugh...probably means we get Bargnani). We are incredibly bad trying to run an offense with Chris Duhon and Darius Morris...it just doesn't work. Our two best PG's (Nash, who this offense is for, and Blake) are both out. Once that is set, it depends on Nash's return. I believe Gasol is already on the block...not necessarily what Kobe wants to hear, but he knows (like the rest of us, from players to fans) that shit like that has to happen if you want to win championships. In addition to all of this, though, Dwight needs to heal up. He missed a wide-open dunk in the game tonight...horribly. He was predicted to come back late December or in January, so I'm not expecting him to be 100% yet. But, with D'Antoni on the list...we need Nash. In fact, even without Mike coaching...we need a PG, period. We can't have two superstars in an offense that they have never played in before (uptempo) and a bunch of streaky shooters who struggle on the defensive end. Kobe played 44 minutes tonight. He's really the only guy who isn't smiling...and that's a problem, but it's expected, because Kobe doesn't like to lose any game.
-
Both Kobe and Dwight (our two superstars) have never played in an uptempo offense...one getting to the NBA Finals in a "four out, one in" offense completely built around him being in the post, the other winning five championships in the triangle offense, four of those rings shooting the most FGA/G on the team and leading every championship team he was on in assists. I believe Howard was the reason SVG was fired, but he had nothing to do with Mike Brown being tossed, and it's D'Antoni's fault for trying to play one of the oldest teams in the NBA as if they were young and athletic, in an uptempo offense, that is built for a player that has only played one game with us so far this season.

David Stern should get rid of the three-point line for the Christmas game.

Kobe having back problems now, on the bench (no idea what they are doing to him), and we're getting toasted by the Knicks' reserves. WTF.
-
LOLakers. Kobe's going to drop 40 tonight, we'll lose, and people will blame him for keeping us from losing by 40.

Laker turnover issue is overrated
Real Deal replied to The Regime's topic in Los Angeles Lakers Team Forum
You can still make sense of it. The Spurs (26th) and Thunder (23rd) turn the ball over a lot, also, but they have the ability to get back on defense. Most of our turnovers seem to result in points. Also, what you said is true...as we go along, and we get back Nash, we should find it easier to take care of the ball. So, while it's a big issue now, it's not our only big issue. We're just slower than most teams. -

We're averaging 16.5 TO/G, not 13.1. Altogether, we have 362 turnovers in 22 games. That's 28th in the league.
