I really think this game would be a lot more fun if it were competitive. Obviously that would be hard to do. It is hard to make it an entertainment show too(see: NBA All Star Game, where players can do trick shots, crazy dunks, Shaq dribbles up the court, etc). I think if they pulled gimmick plays where Peyton Manning snapped the ball to Jeff Saturday who ran a play, it would be a lot more fun.

I think he should have rested longer to be honest. There was no immediate need for him to return, the team isn't exactly in any trouble without him for a few more games(although he is out tonight because of an unrelated injury)
