  1. Also I do not mean at all to be a dick, Cobb... But really, Atlanta? Middle of September, pennant race, and only 18,000 fans show up? Jesus.
  2. Tonight, Billy Wagner came pretty close to striking out the side on 9 pitches (he struck out the first 2 batters on 6 pitches and threw strike 1 to the third batter before throwing a ball). This got me thinking about how much this has happened in history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitchers_who_have_struck_out_three_batters_on_nine_pitches Kind of interesting. A bunch of guys you'd expect (Koufax, Pedro, Bunning, Grove, Nolan Ryan, Bob Gibson, Randy Johnson, Rob Dibble, etc), but then you have a bunch of random guys like Brian Lawrence, Ross Ohlendorf, and Brandon Backe. Heh. Kind of obscure.
  3. Nevermind, Canadiens fan. Even better!!
  4. Devils got owned by the league for the Kovalchuk mess. They have to give up a 1st rounder at some point in the next 4 years (they get to pick which year), a 3rd round pick in 2011, and they are fined $3 million. Ouch!
  5. A very similar play happened in the Super Bowl last year, on the 2 point conversion, and the officials did not overturn it. But there are also cases where the officials did enforce this rule. It seems pretty stupid to me.
  6. Roberto Luongo no longer the Canucks captain.
  7. What? I assumed we were talking about this season.
  8. Week 1 roundup... That was basically a disaster, despite the fact that the final score was close. Tons of big injuries, some questionable decisions by Andy, and a disappointing debut for Kevin Kolb. To summarize the injuries, Leonard Weaver and Jamaal Jackson are out for the rest of the season, Stew Bradley and Kevin Kolb have concussions and won't practice until Friday at the earliest. There were also a couple minor injuries to Mike Bell and Todd Herremans, and maybe one or two others that I cannot think of right now. The Bradley injury might be the biggest, because Omar Gaither got destroyed on several occasions when he took over. Weaver's ACL tear is so severe that it may be career ending, which is horrible news obviously. The Eagles have Jason Davis and Owen Schmidt in for workouts today. This "QB controversy" nonsense is very annoying. Kevin Kolb is the starter, as he should be, once he is healthy. The Eagles did not spend a 2nd round pick, 3 years of grooming him to be the starter, and the Donovan McNabb trade just so they could bench the dude because of one poor half. It was definitely encouraging to see Mike Vick play well. I did not have very high expectations based on what I saw last season and this preseason, but this was the first time he got to play significant minutes in a game that counted. But with that said, he is not the starting quarterback when Kolb is healthy. Seeing Vick play well probably makes the decision a bit easier to ease Kolb back in and not rush him back from the concussion. So Vick probably plays in Detroit. To summarize...The Eagles lost their fullback and center for the year. Not the best way to open the season.
  9. Lost in the mess of the Eagles game today is that Jimmy Rollins is headed back to Philadelphia for an MRI, and suddenly this looks like it could be a huge deal. Per usual, the Phillies are bull[expletive]ting the media and general public as to the severity. I certainly hope this is just a precaution but I am expecting the worst. Brian Bocock brought up to the active roster as well. Them feeling that they need an extra shortstop say might not be a good sign. The good news is that Roy Oswalt is a machine!
  10. I'd say most people watch sports to be entertained, not for life lessons.
  11. Well, watching sports is technically a "waste of time" too.
  12. Wow. And I thought the Eagles set the standard for looking like [expletive] today.
  13. Jamaal Jackson done for year as well. [expletive] me.
  14. If Kolb is healthy, he is starting (as he should). The Eagles did not sacrifice a 2nd round pick, 3 years of seasoning, and the Donovan McNabb trade so they could bench the kid due to one poor half. Not happening.
  15. It was the right play, but the outcome was completely predictable based on how the rest of this game went.
  16. OK.....crow has been eaten about Vick. Weaver probably done for year with torn ACL though.
  17. Unfortunately, with Stew Bradley out the D has gone from looking really good to really average. Really average will not cut it against Aaron Rodgers. Can one guy really be that important? Jesus.
  18. Why is that in quotes? Am I not a real "Philly fan"?
  19. For the record, I will gladly eat crow about Vick if this continues. I think it is more of a flash in the pan though. Feel awful for Kolb. He is a lot better than he showed today, but unfortunately he will get slaughtered on talk radio this week. Will be even worse if Vick shows something.
