  2. When Halladay is a free agent in two seasons he will be free to sign wherever he wants, and there is a pretty decent chance that he will wind up back in the AL East. Ricciardi would be smart to just take the best available players. He has also come out and said that this is his plan.
  3. There isn't much here that I disagree with. However (and Universe/ECN can correct me if I am wrong), but I really don't think there is anybody out there willing to take on Briere's joke of a contract. I guarantee before he signed Emery, Homer was shopping Briere around. Nobody wants to take on that kind of contract for a guy coming off a season with serious injury problems. And another thing to keep in mind, had they dealt Briere, they would have SERIOUS scoring issues. He is currently the only RW on the roster capable of doing anything offensively. So it is very important to keep him healthy since he is here since he's a vital piece to the team. Also as I've said multiple times, this is probably going to be Emery's last chance in the NHL. As Flyers fans, our hope should be that Emery realizes this, at least for this one season he keeps his [expletive] in line. If he plays well and has no problems this year, I guarantee you there will be some team to give him a multi year contract next offseason, at which point who knows if he will go crazy again. But for this one season I am optimistic.
  4. The point I was making is that this is in all likelihood his last shot in the NHL. If he has a repeat of Ottawa here, I strongly doubt he ever signs an NHL contract again. That is what Flyers fans are banking on, at least.
  5. Well obviously something was incredibly wrong with that team... And regardless of whether he is better than Biron (IMO when he is playing at his top level he is and it is no contest), he is way cheaper, which enabled the Flyers to go get Pronger and still be able to make some other moves.
  6. You nailed it right there...that has pretty much been my argument all along. You don't like the signing, but here is some news, if they had re-signed Biron, or signed any other starter-caliber goaltender, your man crush Chris Pronger would not be here. He is cheap, he has upside, and if there was ever a time for him to turn his character around it would be now. Why not roll the dice? I really think you are going to be surprised.
  7. Orel Hershiser went to mine. He's the only one I can think of. Leon Rose went there as well. Not a famous athlete, but obviously a very important NBA figure.
  8. Alright....forget actual players for now. Obviously LeBron, Pujols, Crosby, etc are not going to get traded, that is why this is a hypothetical debate. But in any trade situation, in the MLB and NHL it is easier for the "seller" to get what they want because due to the farm systems there is way more leverage and are way more chips to play.
  9. Agreed...he isn't a franchise goalie by any means (although I believe he is a lot more talented than people are giving him credit for) but in the right situation he can be very successful...just look at the year he took the Senators to the finals.
  10. You have probably never seen him play to begin with. You can look up statistics all you want, but they don't tell any of the story. When he has the right attitude he is a talented goalie and could very well become one of the biggest steals of this year's free agency. I just don't get why you are so convinced that it is a "matter of time until he explodes". If you were a professional athlete with his track record and it was laid out for you that if you [expletive] up again you are out of the league with no shot of ever signing a contract again, don't you think it'd make you shape up even a little bit? In Ottawa he thought he was invincible and could get away with whatever he wanted to do, but now he's been given a dose of reality and told that if he loses it again this year, he will be in all likelihood flipping burgers at a McDonalds in Hamilton next year. Now hey, perhaps he is crazier than we all thought, and that isn't enough to get his [expletive] in line, but honestly I'd bet it isn't the case. Also remember that if he "explodes" as you put it, there are guys like Chris Pronger and Mike Richards in the locker room who won't let it get out of hand. I don't think he really had that in Ottawa...that team was a mess from top to bottom the year he had his falling out with them. And yes, we do have a backup goalie. Brian Boucher was signed two and a half weeks ago.
  11. It was Esche and Lalime. I posted it near the beginning of this thread.
  12. That wasn't a steal that was quite the expensive purchase lol.
  13. He definitely knows his sports.
  14. Not relevant. There will be two teams playing in the World Series. Chances are those two teams had a combined 3-6 players participate last night. It should be up to the records and merits of the participating teams to determine home field. I just don't think it is right to compromise the integrity of the crown jewel of the sport by leaving such a crucial aspect up to an exhibition, and better yet, an exhibition that primarily involves players who will have nothing to do with the actual World Series. As I said, luckily for Selig and his cronies there has not been a game 7 in a World Series since he instituted this, so there have been no issues yet. But if it comes to, say, a team that snuck into the playoffs with 85 wins matching up with a 105 win team in a game 7, and the team with 85 wins gets home field because of a fluke exhibition, what does it say for all the work the 105 win team did during the season?
  15. Not the one I was thinking of... This is what I am talking about (and I think fly3rs as well...) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNIdtnUQ3qI
  16. I know all about his past too. All I am saying is that if the man speaks a word of truth about getting his character in line, he may wind up being the steal of the offseason. I have a really good feeling about it.
  17. That's true, but in a lot of cases getting a star players head cleared and getting him out of a massive slump is almost like getting him back from injury. Hell, look what has happened to the Phillies offense since Jimmy Rollins has gotten his head out of his [expletive]. Coincidence? I think not.
  18. That was in the late 80's I believe....playoffs vs. Montreal. I think Claude Lemieux took a shot on the Flyers net during the pre game skate and it pissed some people off, so a brawl ensued.
  19. I'm telling ya, don't sleep on Ray Emery.
  20. Well, you didn't do a good job signaling that it was a joke lol.
  21. Schedule released today... Flyers schedule is kind of weird. Tons of home games in the beginning of the year and tons of road games towards the end. They also have I think 3 west coast trips. Winter Classic at Fenway should be sick though. If I had a little more cash I'd buy Flyers season tickets this year because apparently that guarantees tickets to that, even though it's technically a road game.
  22. Don't like it because 95% of the players participating will have nothing to do with the actual World Series. Why let them influence who gets home field? It is not fair if a team is 10 games better than it's opponent but does not get home field in the World Series because some exhibition determined it. Sure it adds a bit more drama to the all star game, but I'd rather see the World Series play out fairly seeing as that, and not the all star game, is the pinnacle of the sport. Luckily for Selig there has not been a World Series game 7 since the "this time it counts" BS was initiated, but if and when there is one, it could get ugly.
  23. I would actually say MLB no contest, but I think they are all pretty dumb. The only reason I say the MLB all star game is because to me, that is the only one actually tolerable to watch.
