  1. I got accepted onto the school newspaper as the sports columnist for next year. Two more finals to go and freshman year is over. I plan on going to a few Yankee games this summer. I already have tickets for Mets-Yankees this Friday. My Yankee-fever is higher than it's ever been. The idea of not winning a World Series is so distant because all that's in my mind is last year's amazing run. The idea of the Nets making the playoffs is also so distant. There's a significant difference in how I've handled the Yankees and Nets seasons lately. I feel like the fact that the Nets' season may hold real excitement is something that's being introduced to me for the first time.
  2. Pop talks about bringing Johnson over to Golden State and San Antonio and coaching alongside him with the Spurs. Dave D'Alessandro Al Iannazzone
  3. NY Post The plan is for the Nets to be at the Rock for two years, but it could extend to three if the construction cuts into the 2012-2013 season. If that's the case, LeBron comes for the first year at the Barclays Center.
  4. We could make a reasonable offer, but New Orleans may be hesitant to take a step back in the back court when they're already hiring a new coach.
  5. Strasburg got hit hard three times in that inning. He can be quite a display if he establishes pinpoint control and locates pitches well. For the time being, I guess it's a hit or miss in terms of firing that fastball. Grandersonslam in Baltimore!
  6. He even hit one in the hole and almost had a base hit. I was going to call him the SP-version of Daniel Bard, but his breaking ball seems way more nasty.
  7. Is it just me, or does the fact that no-hitters are often broken up by HR's indicate that the pitcher is going for the no-no as opposed to making the right pitch that will help grab a win? Maybe it's just a mental thing, though.
  8. Like Steve said, we expected Sean not to get in trouble again, and we figured that he learned his lesson a couple years ago. You saw what happened in the following years, and Jersey does not want to take chances again. Those fines that went to Beasley are one reason enough to be cautious. It's not like he's been in the league ten years and we can say he learned his lesson. We're not even 24 months past the incident. Now is not the time to gamble, considering we've had three non-playoff years and want to go straight to hopeful productivity from here on out. Beasley, entering the NBA, even said that his maturity level was one reason he was hesitating to enter the draft.
  9. That's not the point, though. If you keep getting into trouble, your talent level is irrelevant because you won't be getting the playing time to show it. Besides, Sean Williams' athleticism opened everyone's eyes, and many saw him being with the team for a good part of his career as a major contributor.
  10. One thing I do like about the MLB All-Star game is the fact that the outcome has significance, and every team is represented by at least one of their players. What I don't like is that it's hard for the players to feel the significance of the game when it's only July.
  11. He was a 2009 All-Star reserve (though he would have been a starter if it weren't for Iverson's popularity). Last offseason, Boston was trying to work out a deal to bring him over despite having Rondo. He had a rough season this year due to injury and the lack of experience on the team, which brought him out of the attention of many people. He has talent, though, and if he stays healthy this year, I don't think anyone will be complaining about not getting first pick (assuming we don't deal him).
  12. Avery Johnson appears to be the frontrunner for the Nets coaching job now.
  13. NewsDay ... and there's plenty more to it. Probably why Bob Lorenz, who I've never heard doing play-by-play for the Yankees, is covering tonight.
  14. Look at the effect accepting the offer would have had on Jersey's cap space, along with the fact that Beasley isn't a guarantee to perform to what the cap loss is worth. As Steve said, it's important to have Dooling with the added youth. Unfortunately, though, I don't think that's why the Nets declined the offer.
  15. The point is that the call was terrible, but he could have handled the events following the call terribly as well, which he didn't.
  16. ESPN Umpires are humans too. Cliché, but maybe he didn't set himself up for the best angle and truly thought he was out. It really is a shame that we could have seen the league's second perfect game in a week, and third of the season, from a kid that was called up from AAA with low expectations less than a month ago. But Joyce handled it extremely well afterward.
  17. http://i48.tinypic.com/2hzokuh.jpg I'm not a Tiger fan so I can't imagine what they're feeling right now. Imagine how long this could continue to bother Galaragga in the future. It would be easier to accept if the runner really were safe than to know that he had 27 up, 27 down.
  18. That was an incredible catch by Jackson on the 25th out. You don't even need replay to tell that Galaragga beat Donald to the bag. That is as rough as heart breaker can get, I suppose.
  19. If the score in the Indians-Tigers game doesn't change, it's the third 1-0 win in two days. Edit: scratch that. If Galaragga goes on to pitch the perfect game, it's the third in the last month! Unbelievable. Edit #2: scratch that. Galaragga only has 3 K's, so his pitch count is at only 75 after 8 innings.
  20. Other reports say the interview won't happen before Game 1. The Hornets have reportedly made an offer to Thibodeau and have given him until Thursday to accept.
  21. Never mind that. Matt Kemp scores the winning run in both 1-0 extra inning wins.
