Hornets reach agreement with Williams for coaching job

Recommended Posts

The New Orleans Hornets moved quickly on Friday to hire a head coach when Boston assistant coach Tom Thibodeau couldn't give them an answer to their job offer, agreeing to terms with Trail Blazers assistant Monty Williams on a three-year contract with a team option for a fourth, according to a source involved in the negotiations.

The Hornets wanted to hire Thibodeau, who has received credit for installing the defensive schemes that have led Boston to the 2008 title and gotten them back to the Finals this year against the Lakers. But Thibodeau couldn't pull the trigger on their offer, after also being courted by the Bulls and Nets.

When Thibodeau didn't accept the Hornets' offer Thursday, they wasted no time on Friday making their pitch to Williams, who became one of Portland Coach Nate McMillan's most trusted lieutenants.

I guess this means Thibodeau is going to Bulls considering how much Paxson loves him. I believe that CP3 likes Monty more though and he is a good assistant coach. Not sure about him being a head coach though.
