Expectations For David Lee

Recommended Posts

What are your guys expectations for David Lee this upcoming season? He had a coming out party last season with the Knicks and became an All-Star for the first time in his career. He become a bit of an after thought in free agency this year with all of the hype around LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Amare, Dirk and Johnson, but the guy is a damn good player.

Do you expect him to continue his production from last season, perhaps even improving on it (the Warriors do play at a faster pace)? Or do you think that last season was a bit of an anomaly and his production will drop a bit?

Well he's in a pretty favorable system, uptempo and Don Nelson doesn't stress defense (which is a weakness in David Lee's game). His numbers last season were were obviously aided by Mike D’Antoni’s uptempo system, but there's no doubt he also developed as a player and has every single season that he has been in the league. I don't see why he wouldn't be able to repeat the production or improve, but the question is whether Golden State will get better as a team. There is no doubt the Warriors will put up points in loads but there three best players are liabilities on the defensive end.

Lee is still one of the most underrated players in the league. People assume that he put up the numbers he did just because of D'Antoni's system. It's just not true as Lee is extremely talented. Very athletic, destroys teams on the PnR regardless of the PG, he's dangerous in face-up situations, got a great jumper and can finish near the rim, and his rebounding is excellent. He's also a VERY good and underrated passer, unlike most of the other PF/C FA's. Unfortunately in GS he won't get the chance to really improve his defense like he should, but offensively and on the boards he's incredibly effective.

Last season he was the first option. This season he'll likely be the second option behind Ellis. Perhaps having less pressure will allow him to produce more (along with having better passers and playmakers around him in Ellis, Curry, and Wright), or perhaps having less usage will bring his production down for the sake of a better team. We'll see what happens.

He's going to play 100% every night whether or not the team is competitve. Expect a scrappy player who is a poor interior defender, great rebounder, underrated jumper, and outstanding athletic ability.

i think tht his ppg will stay around 20 but i think his rebound numbers go up a little bit maybe 1-2-3 rebounds per game more, 3 more is pushing it tho. watch out for this warriors team, if they can stay healthy this season they can be a very dangerous team IMO. :D
