LA Lakers at Phoenix

Real Deal

Mullin talking about Phil Jackson teams being able to defend the three, but not tonight? The problem would be the mismatches and the pick and rolls. Otherwise, the Lakers usually always defend the three well.

In fact, the Lakers have been one of the worst teams at defending the PNR since the Kobe/Shaq days.

Yeah, when they have Bynum and Gasol, it's hard for those guys to zone areas, especially for Gasol this year. Plus the Lakers interior rotations are poor.

Just like what the Lakers did in the first half. Set up the Triangle with a weak-side flash or cross screen to get Artest in the post. He's punishing the Suns. This is why the Magic got rid of Carter. This is how he plays against good teams.

Yeah, the bad thing is that Vince can't slash to the rim like he could six or seven years back, so he has no way of making up for his bad defense. Not only is Carter a bad post defender, but he can't hold anyone on the perimeter, either.

Exactly. Even when he was athletic, he couldn't finish at the basket though. He's always been all flash, no substance. He's always been this bad on defense.

Ah...I don't know about not being able to finish. Alonzo Mourning, and many other victims, have been put on a poster by Vince...and he's put up a 360 layup on the Lakers at least 20 times in his career (it seems).

WTF is up with all of the techs?

Not when there's contact. He's always shied away from engaging contact at the basket.
