St.Louis Cardinals 2011

It's Year 16 for the Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium, and Year 16 for manager Tony La Russa at the helm of the Redbirds. And yet, as pitchers and catchers officially reported to the club's facility in southeastern Florida once again, the urgency is the same as it's always been.

For the 2011 Cardinals, like just about every other iteration that has trained in northern Palm Beach County, the imperative is simple: Make it to October, and make some noise once they get there.

"It feels great," La Russa said in his first spring address to the media on Sunday. "I think we've got a good club in a good division, and that's stuff that stokes you."

Wainwright officially out for the year.

Oh well, Kyle McClellan is going to need to step up big for us.

I have confidence in him though, he started for 3 years in the minors and has 4 great pitches in his fastball, curveball, cutter, and sinker.

Should be interesting.

JUPITER, Fla. -- Chris Carpenter, the first of two Cardinals pitchers to leave today's game with injury, sustained what was termed a mild left hamstring strain.

Righthander Mitch Boggs, who replaced Carpenter, left an inning later with what the medical staff is calling a strained lower back.
