According to latimes.com:

The Clippers and free-agent forward Kenyon Martin have agreed on a mini-midlevel deal that will be finalized as soon as Martin passes a physical, according to an NBA individual familiar with the negotiations.

Martin, who played for the Xinjiang Tigers in China and had been required to wait until their season was over before rejoining the NBA, was cleared to return to the NBA by FIBA, the international basketball federation, Thursday.

Could turn out being a pretty big signing, actually. The bench gets better and they desperately needed a serviceable big man to come in for Deandre Jordan or Blake Griffin when one of them goes to the bench.

J.R. Smith on the way too:

Several other Americans are still playing in China, including former Knick forward Wilson Chandler and former Nuggets and St. Benedict’s Prep guard J.R. Smith, who on Wednesday dropped 60 points in a Chinese league game, hitting 14 of 18 3-pointers.

Smith is considering the Knicks, Clippers, Lakers, Thunder and Bulls, league sources told SNY.tv.

Assuming he is healthy, this is a huge signing for the Clippers. They really were in desperate need of depth in the frontcourt, and Martin will be a tremendous bench player for them. He's tough, a very good rebounder, tremendous and versatile defender, great finisher around the rim, has a passable jumper, an underrated passer, and is a high IQ veteran. Definitely a big upgrade from the likes of Brian Cook, Solomon Jones, Trey Thompkins, and even Reggie Evans.

If they get a legit SG from the FA pool or from dangling one or both of Bledsoe/Billups, the Clippers will go from a dangerous playoff team to a legit title contender IMO.

EDIT -- OFFICIAL RELEASE:

CLIPPERS SIGN KENYON MARTIN

The Los Angeles Clippers today signed free agent forward Kenyon Martin. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not announced. An 11-year NBA veteran and former NBA All-Star (2004), Martin joins the Clippers after signing with the Xinjiang Guanghui Flying Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association this summer.

“Kenyon is the ultimate competitor and a key acquisition," stated Vice President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey. “We expect that he will provide additional experience, passion and professionalism, as well as some important depth to our front court."

Martin, 34, has played in 654 career NBA games with the New Jersey Nets and Denver Nuggets and 89 playoff games. The 6-foot-9, 234 pound forward brings career averages of 13.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 blocks to the Clippers.

(...) Martin is expected to join the Clippers on their current road trip in Orlando and will wear uniform #2.

It's been confirmed on NBA.com too:

Martin, Clippers agree to one-year deal

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Los Angeles Clippers and free agent Kenyon Martin have agreed to a one-year deal, returning the veteran forward to the NBA after a brief stint in China. Martin's agent, Andy Miller, confirmed Friday that the sides reached agreement. The deal, believed to be worth the mini mid-level exception of $2.5 million, is expected to be finalized as soon as Martin passes a physical.

Martin spent part of the season playing for the Xinjiang Flying Tigers in China and was required to wait until their season ended before rejoining the NBA. However, he was cleared to return Thursday by FIBA, basketball's international governing body.

The 34-year-old Martin averaged 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds last season in Denver. The deal reunites him with former Nuggets teammate Chauncey Billups, now a guard with the Clippers. Martin also has a home in Los Angeles.

Martin's arrival takes a solemn turn

http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2012/0208/la_u_martin_b1_600.jpg

CLEVELAND -- Kenyon Martin sat alone. While his new teammates, most of whom he had just met 48 hours earlier opted to address their various needs, Martin merely sat back in a folding chair, shirtless, with his street clothes hanging above him. While this may have been the path Martin chose to take, it was one that had been augmented by circumstances well beyond his control.

Two lockers to Martin’s left stood barren quarters, housing only a chair and a nameplate. The blue-and-white decal placed on the locker door read “1 - Billups,” signifying where his friend-turned-recruiter would have been sitting had it not been for a freak, non-contact injury (a torn Achilles' tendon) that would in turn end the veteran point guard’s season.

It was Chauncey Billups who had played a major role in getting Martin to Los Angeles, citing a “friend-to-friend” conversation that encapsulated organizational philosophy as well as the potential for winning a championship. The two veterans would be joining up with arguably the league’s best point guard (Chris Paul) as well as the league’s most exciting power forward (Blake Griffin), but this would be their chance to win together.
