Team USA Halts Lithuanian Upset Bid

After a record 83-point win two days ago, the United States was tested by upset-minded Lithuania Saturday afternoon. But Team USA prevailed, 99-94, as Chris Paul and Lebron James led the way down the stretch.

Paul, who finished with seven points, six assists, seven rebounds, and four steals in 28 minutes, threw a brilliant bounce pass to Kevin Durant for a dunk to tie the game at 82 with 6:08 remaining. And after Palius Jankunas flipped in a runner on the other end, Paul dribbled into a step-back 3-pter from the left wing to put the United States back in front, 85-84.

Chris Paul had 11 points and nine assists as the Clippers took down the Warriors 88-71 in Paul's second preseason game Monday night @ STAPLES Center. DeAndre Jordan had team-highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds.

A week ago, Paul said he felt as if the team played too slow at times last season. On Monday, they controlled the pace and the ball. Blake Griffin and Paul combined for 15 assists and the Clippers assisted on 25 of their 36 made field goals.

“Last year we were second in the league in [fewest] turnovers,” Paul said of the team’s 13.3 turnovers per game in 2011-12. “Me as the point guard, that’s my job to make sure we get a shot every time down and I pay a lot of attention to it.”

Paul was among several London Olympians honored at halftime.
