I got this idea off Fox Sports as they had a poll asking Kobe has the ball taking the last shot for the win who do you want guarding Kobe at that moment at that time. So I'll make a poll and you guys vote. The choices I put are the ones that Fox Sports let you only chose except I put OTHER. If you choose Other state who and why.

Here is the article and poll

I think this ones a no brainer, Shane Battier, no question. His nicknames the Kobe stopper after all. He is the best perimeter defender in the league, and he has amazing instincts. Kobe is about the same height too, so it wouldnt be like kobe could shoot over him.

For the last shot, Shane Battier. He's not the best perimeter defender in the NBA, though. He's an excellent help defender, and he contests shots very, very well...but defending quick, slashing guards? Not his cup of tea.

Now, if Kobe was going to take it to the rim, that's different. I take Tayshaun Prince.

But knowing Bryant, he's going to hesitate a bit, gain some room, then pull up for a jumper...so your answer is Battier.

And, LeBron James is athletic as you can get, and he wouldn't be a poor choice at all.

Probably not at all, but I've also seen what Kobe does when LeBron plays him one-on-one, so I'm going to pick a defensive specialist over James.

Has anyone actually nicknamed him the Kobe stopper?

Probably not, because Bryant has already dropped 50 on him, I believe.

Plus, anyone dubbed "The Kobe Stopper" usually gets their asses handed to them pretty badly.

I hate you. I was going to pull Tayshaun Prince out of nowhere, and you ruin it. Anyway.

Prince has always bothered Kobe with his height and length. He gives up strength, sure, but Kobe doesn't really rely on powering through opponents. Yes, I would be fearing the hesitation move to set up the jumper. But Prince would not at all be bad for discouraging that. Plus, like you said, he's a clear choice for stopping the drive.

There is no "right" answer to stopping Kobe from scoring. But I am shocked at the "This is easy" people. Is Prince really that much of a pushover compared to Battier? To anybody? He's my pick.

News to me.

Well, it's probably easy because it's a clear-cut decision for Kobe to take the shot, instead of the drive, and Battier is easily the best at defending the shot. There hasn't been anyone else in the league since Scottie Pippen to defend a jumper as good as Battier.

"Face-guarding" is illegal in college basketball and in high school basketball (I believe), but in the NBA, it's legal if the player has the ball...and nobody does that better than Shane, and I'm almost willing to say that he's probably the best face-guarding defensive player of all-time. It's just that there are many other ways of defending a shot, also...such as moving your hand past a player's side of their head, near their ears. It'll throw their shot off. Just a tip for you kids out there. ;)
