What's up with Howard's REB and BLK?

It's more difficult to stay in the game and play good defense when your team is hit by the injury bug. More guards/forwards attack the rim, you don't get enough help defense down low, and you're wearing yourself out getting the ball more as the primary option, covering for guys like Shard and Carter (and now Nelson).

Plus, I still think not having Courtney Lee playing defense hurts Orlando. That puts more on Pietrus, and once he wears out, it's "attack the rim" time again, and it puts Howard in foul trouble. Despite some popular belief in Orlando, Vince Carter is not a good defensive player, and never will be.

Magic's perimeter defender like Lee, Alston were highly underrated. People don't realize those guys did a hell of a job holding their players in check. Hedo's also better defender than Wince Carter. People don't realize that Carter still doesn't give a [expletive] about defense, doubt he ever did though. It's easy to penetrate the Magic's DEFENSE.

What is it with Rockets fan and Magic hating? I'm not sure, but every critic the Magic have now all happen to be fans of the Rockets. And they're always talking about Alston's, a former Rocket player, perimeter defense like it means something to someone.

How's Hedo doing this year by the way? 14 points a game and by far his worst defensive rating (116 points given up per 100 posssessions as opposed to the 115 he scores). He may have been a good defender once upon a time, back in his earlier days with Sacramento, but he's never been even an adequate defender since joining the Magic. This season alone, he's let Jefferson go for 25 on him, and let Marion score 18 in a world where Marion no longer scores 18 points a game. He also got triple-doubled on in his first game against LeBron. On the other hand, Carter's defensive rating is where it's always been, at roughly 104 as opposed to his 112 offensive rating. He also gave Jackson a tough time in his first Bobcats game, holding him to 4/14 shooting and also held Iguodala to 8 points on 3/11 shooting.

So why is Hedo a better defender? Because a Rockets fan said so?

Haha, I remember how Hedo suddenly became an overrated defender that one block on Bryant in the Finals, when he attempted a game-tying or game-winning jumper. Hedo is a facilitating, shooting forward...and that's about it. Love his clutch shots, love how he can handle the ball sometimes, but a defender he is not.

And as far as Carter goes...I can't say he's a good defender. Probably better than Hedo, but still not that solid. Defensive ratings are odd, just as eFG% allowed numbers, and +/- stats. They always take into account help defense, or the lack of team defense on the floor, making players like Shane Battier seem like they are less defensively-talented than that of, say, Derek Fisher.

Because Hedo gives 2% effort compared to Carter's Zero. Because Hedo plays with heart out there compared to Carter's Tinman Heart.

Get it? Probably not.

lol. So you can't say both are poor defenders and then attempt to seperate them into their own category. You either bunch them together as poor defenders, no matter their 'effort levels' or you attempt to differentiate them, in that case, evidence would be handy to prove what you say. But you can't say one's a poor defender because 'this one time in Toronto, he didn't play very hard' (Carter), and then say the other one is a bad defender, 'but he tries hard' and then call the second one better even though Turkoglu is vastly inferior in his defensive skillset. That's ridicolous.

Edit: I just realised you were PFG, no point in arguing with you.

Whatever makes you sleep at night.

No surprise that Carter went from overrated to underrated back to overrated again since he's on a good team.

I see the Vince Carter Effect is already going full-time since Jameer Nelson got Yao'd for a month.

To an extent you can. Neither is a good defender, but at least you can pick up good habits from a poor defender who works hard. Turkoglu's a pretty lazy defender in his own right though. People talk about his block on Kobe, but he got beaten so badly off the dribble that he was behind Kobe and in good position to block a jump shot from behind. A good play for staying with it after getting beat, but very fluky.
