  1. PRETENDERS OR CONTENDERS: LA Lakers

    Are the LA Lakers pretenders or contenders? This team was supposed to dominate from day one , but it's been quite the opposite. They might not even make the playoffs as predicted by Magic Johnson who said "It's over".

    Key problems:

    - Dwight Howard (He's not healthy / the same player that he was in Orlando)

    - Chemistry (Doesn't seem that they learned how to play with each other)

    - D'Antoni as the coach, he's an idiot.

  2. It's fine, Kyle. No need to jump in.

    Thanks for cleaning out the PM's.

    I've been backing some of you guys for years, even after coming at me with remarks that I would never allow a person to say to my face.

    I'd honestly rather see you guys leave the site for good, on your own, if this is going to flip over to me. Real talk, not even mad at this point...I don't know.

    Cleared my two PM's lol, you're the man Brandon. :glasses:

    What's the count at now?

  3. I'm not opposed to a Gay-Deng swap either. It would essentially benefit both teams.

    Also I wouldn't really qualify Deng as an overpaid player. He is highly inconsistent as a #2 option, but his defense is invaluable. He's done an excellent job defending Lebron, and that will come in handy in the long run. I still feel that he has a little bit of upside and hasn't necessarily peaked yet. He's become a better three point shooter compared to last season, and he's the only Bull outside of Rose who can put the ball on the floor and create a shot. Unless the Bulls are upgrading at the position then there is no need to trade him.

    A Gay-Deng swap would be excellent for both teams.

    Deng's inability to create for himself and for his teammates, lack of ballhanding skills, and court vision/passing make him overpaid player when he is being paid top dollar to do these things. He's peaked because this is the Deng we've seen since he's came into the league except that he's got a three point shot now and he would've had one earlier if Skiles didn't tell him to stop shooting threes. Deng's horrific at putting the ball on the floor and creating, it doesn't end up good at all. I think you're confusing Deng with Ben Gordon or John Salmons when they were here.

    One of the reasons to trade Deng is his huge salary because they could get someone similar but more athletic and better shot creator (Barnes) on a rookie deal and in two years Deng's going to demand his final payday because he's going to be 28 and remain the same player we've seen. Rose needs a second creator to help him out and ease the pressure off him.

  4. Problem is that he won't be close to playing at an MVP level by April.

    Maybe I'm old school in my thinking and ACL and MCL injuries aren't as bad as they once were, but I can't recall any player being 100% healthy after less than a year removed from the tears and subsequent surgery.

    Say what you want about me thinking they'd be better off tanking the year while Rose recovers, but rushing him back is by far a worse idea than anything I've said in this thread.

    Who knows, though, maybe he recovers faster than most people and is actually 100% healthy by April. I highly doubt it, but it is possible, I guess.

    The team constructed right now without Rose is a playoff team and Rose would be ready by the 1st round at the latest because Thibs would manage his minutes more carefully this time. I believe this team with Rose could've made it to the finals this season but they would lose to the Thunder though.

  5. Is there any reason why they shouldn't tank next year?

    With Rose out for the year, the team in dire need of a second option, and having a rabid and loyal fanbase, doesn't it make perfect sense for them to pretty much throw the season? Keep Rose on the sidelines all season, have Deng have wrist surgery and keep him out as long as possible.

    San Antonio did it and they were able to pair David Robinson with Tim Duncan. Why shouldn't Chicago do it and look to pair Rose with Shabazz Muhammad, Nerlens Noel, Cody Zeller or James Michael McAdoo (or Dario Saric if he declares)?

    Sure, it may not work and they could end up with no chance of drafting any of these guys, but it is still better having a top 10 pick than sneaking into the playoffs and getting bounced in the first round.

    Recent reports have said Rose is doing well and is expected to be back around December/January. No, they should not tank.

  6. To trade or to not to trade Luol Deng? That's been a cause of controversy for numerous Chicago Bulls fans.

    PROS:

    - save money

    --> allows the bulls to pick up more pieces in free agency

    --> avoid the tax

    --> he's inline for an extension soon and he would want a ton of money for his final big payday.

    - get a similar guy who has the possibility of being better than deng (harrison barnes)

    --> Deng's peaked, WYSIWYG

    --> cheaper (rookie contract)

    CONS

    - lose a proven veteran / 'glue guy' of the team

    Put me down on the trade Deng bandwagon.

  7. For the seventh pick? Why would Chicago do this? Deng is a developed player, an all-star, and one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA...and he's still in his prime.

    I don't get it, really. I would rather hang in there and wait for Rose to get healthy, hope to find a taker for Boozer, and then continue to contend in the East.

    Management has seen that Deng is not close enough to be a good #2 option, a great #3 though and Deng's contract restricts them from getting this elite #2 scorer to put with Rose. At least with Barnes, he's projected to be better than Deng is and the Bulls aren't restricted by Deng's contract anymore. At age 29, the Bulls will have to extend him and Deng would want another massive contract which would restrict the team again and currently his value is high.

    In a nutshell, he makes too much money, not worth the $13M next year or $14M after and he's only going to get older and have more injuries, and he's horrible at ball handling.

    After securing their own No. 7 pick in Wednesday's draft lottery, the Warriors have four picks, which can be used to trade up in the draft or for an experienced small forward. They could use a playmaking forward, like Andre Iguodala or Lamar Odom, or a defensive-minded guy, like Nic Batum, Luol Deng, Luc Mbah a Moute or Josh Smith.

    I wouldn't mind getting Deng for the #7 pick and picking up Barnes (if he's still there or at least trade up and get him).

    The Bulls are expected to allow point guard C.J. Watson to become a free agent this summer, as Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle writes. Simmons indicates that the Bulls will decline a team option, but the Bulls don't possess an option. Instead, Watson's $3.2MM salary for the final season of his contract next year is not guaranteed if he's off the Bulls roster by July 10. So, it appears the Bulls will waive him before that deadline.

    Good riddance, here's to Nash/Kidd/Miller/Delonte West coming here. Watson was horrible when Rose was gone in the playoffs, absolutely dreadful.

  10. Sam: Losing Kyle would be a big loss. Of the three bench players with the team options, he is the best and most valuable. But it will come down to dollars and the ability to keep other players for the long term. The Bulls like Korver and would want to keep him, but with so many large long term contracts they have to make some painful choices. But I have no doubt Kyle would be in demand and even could return to the Jazz as they have yet to replace him.

    I would let Kyle go or at least get some assets for him, he's not good at against real competition especially in the playoffs where he doesn't get open well or shoot well either.

    "I've been rehabbing the same time he rehabs. It's been going great from what I see," Gibson said. "He's pushing his leg to the limit. He's getting stronger. (The trainers) said he's ahead of schedule already and I think he's going to come back better and stronger than he ever was ...

    Good to hear, I think he'll be back around January.
