  1. I wouldn't really call JR Smith a "good defender". OP, the guy is extremely talented but probably has the lowest IQ in the league. I don't think the Bulls wouldn't want that type of player.

He's better then Keith Bogans for sure at defense. I agree that he has a very low IQ in the league, but we desperately need scoring from the SG position currently, because Bogans + Brewer are not averaging more then 10 points and that is UNACCEPTABLE from a SG position.

Interesting stat is the Bulls are 10-0 when Bogans scores more then 6 points. Yes JR smith will shoot some shots that are not likable, but it's okay because he can light it up with the best of them.

  2. MVP: Derrick Rose

    Coach of the Year: Pops

Defensive Player of the Year: Dwight Howard

    Most Improved: Kevin Love

    6th man: Jamal Crawford

Rookie of the Year: Blake Griffin

Biggest Disappointment (player or team): Coach Thibodeau's rotations.

Biggest Surprise (player or team): Derrick Rose's defense.

    First League All-Team:

    C: Dwight Howard

    PF: Kevin Durant

    SF: LeBron James

    SG: Kobe Bryant

    PG: Derrick Rose

    Finals Guess:

    LAL over Celtics in 6.

  3. The easiest way to increase more activity is recruiting the correct way, do not spam other forums. Try email, IM's, and social networking sites which could be a great key to get more fresh faces in. Another plausible way is to create quality discussion topics instead of just posting news topic. When you post a news topic, put some analysis on it, it doesn't mean you have to write an essay, just write about 2-4 sentences on that topic and readers are more interested in posting when someone does it.

  4. This is how you rebuild from a Skiles team, I know from previous experience:

    1) Fire Scott Skiles: He has burned out the team from his coaching and his screaming at the players. That "one goal, one focus" stuff only goes so far with limited talent that the Milwaukee Bucks have.

    2) Trade Gooden & Maggete: It's going to be tough to trade these horrendous contracts, but they need to remove players who have never been winners and just chuckers. These guys don't play any defense at all as well to make matters worse.

  5. Chicago Bulls

    • Position Needed: Shooting Guard

    Why do we need SG?

-- Currently our two shooting guards are averaging less then 10 points a game COMBINED and that is dreadful. We need more points to compete from that position which is a clear weakness of ours currently and it is something the Chicago Bulls most improve upon. Also, I would like to ship out Keith Bogans because Coach Thibodeau is insanely in love with Bogans and does not care about the mistakes he makes, while he will not let our prospect James Johnson develop.

    Feasible Replacements:

    1) Courtney Lee: Inexpensive, is a good three point shooter, good defense, and was a starter for the Orlando Magic during their Final's visit.

    2) J.R. Smith: Inexpensive, good 3 point shooter, good defense, but has attitude issues, but these attitude issues are severely overblown in my opinion.

    Feasible Trades:

    1) JJ, 1st round Pick For Courtney Lee

    2) JJ, Bogans, 1st and/or 2nd Round Pick for JR Smith

  6. Brandon Jennings has been out since Dec. 20 following surgery on his left foot, but his return is getting closer. Milwaukee's game in Los Angeles against the Clippers on Jan. 31 is a potential return date for the L.A. native.

"I wish (I could play) tomorrow," Jennings said. "Hopefully, when I go back to L.A. so I can play at home against the Clippers. I want to play at home at least one time. Or maybe get one or two games in before we hit L.A."

The original estimate following the injury was that he'd miss four to six weeks.

    Via Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

I think Jennings should start off playing against a weak team in the league first instead of the Clippers because the Clippers are going to be challenging with all their athleticism. He just needs to slowly rehab back into shape and not lose his confidence.

  7. Mike Dunleavy is in the final year of his contract, which makes him a trade candidate leading up to the Feb. 24 trade deadline. With the wing being the deepest position for the Pacers, his name has been mentioned in rumors. Still, Dunleavy isn't concerned about the possibility of being moved.

"Maybe I should worry about it, but I don't at all," he said. "It's not worth it. How I look at it is, I'll always be playing basketball. It doesn't matter if it's here or at the North Pole."

Even if he's not traded, it isn't likely Dunleavy will return next season due to Indiana's depth.

"We've got a good group of young guys," Dunleavy said. "It's been fun growing here. I love being in Indiana. I love the organization and the coaching staff. We'll see what happens."

  12. Derrick Rose's Defensive Improvement

    NY Times

All of that makes for a pretty impressive résumé, but neglects the most drastic improvement in Rose’s game this season; whether due to natural evolution, Tom Thibodeau’s tutelage, or his time with the defense-first Team U.S.A., Rose has learned to use his incredible physical gifts more effectively on the defensive end, and has become into one of the league’s most surprisingly effective perimeter defenders.

Rose is just 22, and a year removed from being a part-time liability on the defensive end. Not only has he shattered expectations for his efensive improvement this season, but Rose has a legitimate claim as a plus defender while playing at the most difficult position in the league.

More outstanding yet are Rose’s individual defensive numbers. According to Synergy Sports Technology, Rose has allowed just 0.77 points per possession overall on defense this season, an elite mark for any defender, regardless of position. Chris Paul (0.86 points per possession allowed), Rajon Rondo (0.83 PPP allowed), and Russell Westbrook (0.92 PPP allowed) –- all excellent defenders -– have been trumped statistically this year, and by no slim margin. Rose has each of those players handily beat, and boasts a shockingly comprehensive defensive profile.

I thought he sucked at defense though.

  13. Has Your Team Played To Your Expectations?

We have reached the halfway point in the NBA season yesterday.

Has your team played as well/worse as you thought it would be?

    Bulls:

    - They've played down or up to the level of their opponents which must be stopped and we've been having this problem for a couple of years. The Bulls have to keep putting it into throttle every night and make opponents play to their level.

    - This is a new team that needs to mesh more and our shooting guard and Ronnie Brewer should be starting above Bogans for exposure to the court and get some chemistry with the team.

-- We have been screwed over with injuries this year and don't know why the Basketball Gods are tripping.

  14. I think you can make a case for him, but he is still not that great defensively, and turns it over more than you'd like, at least relative to his assists. He might be the MVP of the NBA right now, but I think Deron Williams has been the best point in the NBA this year, I have no idea what is going on with Chris Paul though, he needs some teammates though that's for sure.

True, but the turnovers are expected because of the high usage rate.

    Rose: USG% 31.3, TOV: 3.3

    Westbrook: USG% 31.1, TOV: 3.7,

    Rondo: USG% 17.8. TOV: 3.8

Rose still has more holes in his game than Paul and Deron in my opinion. He could easily be the best point guard in the NBA within 2-3 years, especially by the sounds of his work ethic and competitiveness. Hell, he might get in that LBJ, Wade, etc, group before too long, his production continues to rise exponentially.

What are these holes you speak of? He fixed his outside shooting which was a glaring hole, he shoots at 39%, could be higher if he didn't attempt buzzer beaters but he doesn't care about stats. Defense? It's getting better per game. His man defense is good, but his team defense is average. He needs to do better at poking at the ball, playing the passing lanes, etc...

  15. Preach. Though I always wonder what happened to the Luol who was rumoured to be getting dealt for Kobe - 20 years old averaging 19 PPG on 52%, he looked like he was going to be an absolute stud.

Injuries he suffered a lot of them after the great Miami Heat vs Chicago Bulls series in 05 where Deng lead the Bulls to victory. He's also getting less touches this year as a result of being the third option.

Even today he is an awesome 3rd apple type of player offensively. 18 PPG on 46% is still really nice, why is he shooting so many 3's this year?

He has a lot of open attempts created by Derrick Rose and Carlos Boozer.

  16. Rose would have rather had Joe Johnson, who he dearly wanted because he could have been the second playmaker + ball handler and relieve the pressure of creating on Rose therefore the opposing team would not be allowed to trap Rose at the top and the team's offense would be stagnant then. Joe Johnson would fit the bill perfectly because he is a great 3 point shooter, unlike compared to LeBron.

Rose is not going to bow down to anyone, Chicago swagger. ;)

  17. Derrick Rose Posts Triple Double Against Memphis

    http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2011/0117/chi_g_rose01_400.jpg

Derrick Rose: 22 Points, 12 Assists, 10 Rebounds

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose recorded the first triple-double of his career Monday afternoon in a 96-84 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Rose scored 22 points with 12 assists and 10 rebounds, recording the triple-double he never thought he would get during his career. "It feels the same," he said with a laugh. "A win is a win, no matter how my stats are. I'm just happy we got the win, without some of the key players that's on our team."

Playing without Carlos Boozer (sprained ankle) and Joakim Noah (thumb surgery), Rose and Co. dominated the game from the outset. They set the tone defensively, holding the Grizzlies to just 38 percent shooting from the floor.

"We were talking about it in here, playing with an edge," Rose said. "Coach [Tom Thibodeau] put it on the board, 'We have to play with an edge,' knowing that we're missing some key players, but we still got to go out there and hustle and make up for missing them."

Thibodeau was happy to see his star have so much success and believes the key to recording his first triple-double came with a renewed focus on rebounding.

"Obviously, the scoring's there all the time," Thibodeau said of Rose. "And the assists are usually there. And I've said this all along, I think he's made much more of a concerted effort to rebound the ball. So now when you add the rebounding component to it, that's where I think the triple-doubles will come.

"Like I've said all along, the better he rebounds the ball, the more we can get out into the open floor and get some easy transition scores. I think those fast breaks, the ones in which he rebounds and busts out with the ball, they're impossible to stop. He generates speed, and we're going to get a good shot. Either he's getting the score or we're going to get a wide open shot from there."

For Rose, being able to accomplish such a feat in Memphis, on the same FedEx Forum floor he used to play on at the University of Memphis, was special to him.

"I played 20-something games on that court [in college]," Rose said. "I kind of know everything about it, where you should shoot the ball. Tonight I really didn't shoot the ball that good, but it was just one of them nights where everybody else was shooting the ball well. Just being back on this court felt good."

  18. Luol Deng - One of the Most Under Appreciated Players in the NBA Today

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hrKgQgncuo&feature=player_embedded

I loved this video because it shows the life of Luol Deng through Rags to Riches...

How did he come to be? Well he is Sudanese and his father was apart of the Sudan government, a high official, and he moved his family to England to escape the Sudanese Civil War. Deng quickly grew to love the game of basketball and he played for England's squad and was very good. He was averaging 40 points and 14 rebounds...

Then, Luol moved to USA and Deng was considered the second most promising high school senior in America after LeBron James. He was named First Team All-America and could not showcase his talents to the world because of an injury.

He played college ball at Duke under Coach K. He was only the 10th freshman in ACC history to lead all rookies in scoring, rebounding, and field goal percentage...

Deng entered the draft in 2004 after a year in Duke. He was picked seventh by the Suns and then traded to the Bulls and the rest is history as you know, he led the Chicago Bulls to beat the Miami Heat in a playoff series...

People always say he is one of the most overpaid players in the league, but his contract is deferred(30%/40% deferred) and he is great at what he is doing currently for his contract. Most of the money of the contract goes to the Lost Boys of Sudan...

That is why Luol Deng is a great person on and off the court and is one of the most under appreciated players in the league today...
