Italy Match Fixing Scandal: Lazio skipper Stefano Mauri arrested, Domenico Criscito on cops’ radar SS Lazio skipper Stefano Mauri is one of eleven players arrested by Italian police as they investigate a match fixing scandal that threatens the nation’s preparation for the 2012 European Championships. The police also arrived at Italy’s training camp in Tuscany to search the room of former Genoa and current Zenit St.Petersburg defender Domenico Criscito and conduct further investigations. Like Criscito, Antonio Conte, the manager of 2011/12 domestic champions Juventus, has also been placed under investigation, although reports suggest this is more related to his time as manager at Siena rather than Juve. Conte managed Siena, whose president Massimo Mezzaroma, is also a suspect, before moving to Juve in 2011. Omar Milanetto, former Genoa skipper, and Sampdoria striker Christopher Bertani have also been arrested along with Mauri. The house of Chievo Verona skipper Sergio Pellissier was also searched. The match fixing trial will begin on May 31, with 22 clubs, 52 players and 33 matches ( mostly in Serie B) under the scanner. Italy were rocked by the Calciopoli scandal on the eve of the 2006 World Cup too, the last title won by the Azzurri. The investigations then resulted in the relegation of Juventus to Italian football’s second tier. Italian FA vice president Demetrio Albertini has already announced that Criscito will not be going to Euro 2012 despite Prandelli not having released his 23 member shortlist yet. Source

Clippers, Neil Olshey agree in principle to new contract Olshey had interviewed for the vacant GM job in Portland. http://i.imgur.com/JLb7c.jpg Neil Olshey, the Clippers’ vice president of basketball operations who put together one of the most successful teams in the franchise's history, reached an agreement in principle to stay with the Clippers, the team said Friday. No financial details were made available. Olshey had flown to London recently to interview with Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen for their vacant general manager position, his second interview with that team in two years. Olshey had been working without a contract with the Clippers since last August. During the 66-game, lockout-shortened 2011-12 season, Olshey acquired Chris Paul, Chauncey Billups, Caron Butler, Reggie Evans, Nick Young and Kenyon Martin and resigned center DeAndre Jordan. The Clippers posted a 40-26 record in the regular season, the highest winning percentage (60.6%) in franchise history. The Clippers then reached the second round of the playoffs for just the second time during the 31 years Donald Sterling has owned the team. Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro had his contract for next season exercised by the team on Tuesday. Olshey just completed his second season in his role as the general manager, and his ninth overall with the Clippers. Source

The Golden State Warriors have been aggressive making deals under the new owners and Joe Lacob says their fans can expect it to continue. "Just think about it. At the (2011) trade deadline, we had no (2012) draft picks, a small backcourt, David Lee and nothing else," Lacob tells Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle. "Now, we have four picks, a bigger backcourt and Andrew Bogut to play alongside Lee. I think we've made huge, positive changes to this roster." The team owns picks 7, 30, 36 and 52 in the draft and they will try to move up and their target might be Kentucky's Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Simmons writes: "General manager Bob Myers spent a long time with Charlotte Bobcats general manager Rich Cho in the lottery green room, sparking speculation that the Warriors might try to bundle their picks for the right to draft Kidd-Gilchrist at No. 2." Thunder to Lil Wayne: You need a ticket OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Thunder say Lil Wayne is welcome to attend a playoff game in Oklahoma City, but needs to buy a ticket just like everyone else. The rapper created a stir Thursday night by posting on Twitter that he was "going to go to the Thunder game tonight but was denied by the team to be in their arena." Thunder spokesman Dan Mahoney says Lil Wayne's representatives did contact the team requesting tickets but insisted that he sit on the front row, and none of those seats was available. Oklahoma City sold out every home game during the regular season and playoffs this season. Mahoney says: "We'd love to have him at a game, but like anyone else, he needs a ticket." Lil Wayne finished his tweet with "Go Spurs!" http://www.nba.com/2012/news/05/31/lil-wayne-thunder.ap/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt2

Kobe Fans Worst Nightmare
Sħãlïq™ replied to EastCoastNiner's topic in Los Angeles Lakers Team Forum
I could never understand Laker fans. With all due respect, why in the world would you wanna see your biggest rival win another conference title?! If I were a Laker fan I wouldn't wanna see Boston in the playoffs. I mean - if you hate - hate like a real hater, and show some HATE. SMH. <_< -
Who is currently the face of the NBA?
Sħãlïq™ replied to Need4Sheed's topic in General NBA Discussion
It's between LeBron and Durant. Right now LeBron wins by a bit. It really depends on who wins the 'ship. And it's sad that Blake Griffin is an option. <_< -
Report: Bobcats rule out Ewing, interview Shaw CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- A person familiar with the situation says the Bobcats have met with Indiana Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw about their vacant head coaching position. The person spoke to The Associated Press Friday on condition of anonymity because Charlotte has not made its list of candidates public. Shaw won five NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers - three as a player and two as an assistant coach. He's the ninth known candidate to interview, joining former head coaches Nate McMillan (Portland) and Jerry Sloan (Utah), assistant coaches Michael Malone (Golden State), Stephen Silas (Charlotte) Nate Tibbetts (Cleveland), Dave Joerger (Memphis), Patrick Ewing (Orlando) and Mike Dunlap (St. John's). Ewing has since been ruled out. Bobcats executive Rod Higgins said Wednesday the team will hire someone "in a couple of weeks." http://www.nba.com/2012/news/06/01/shaw-bobcats.ap/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt2
