  1. Weezy added a nice verse to Light Up. That was nice to hear. Unfortunately that's one of the only four tracks I still have in rotation so it doesn't help the album's strength in my personal opinion.
  2. I laughed at how bad his Tim Westwood Freestyle was. It's not related to TML, but it relates to his rapping skills.
  3. Drake's album wasn't worth the hype. Enjoyed "Light Up" and "The Resistance", but not much else.
  4. Gave the whole album a listen. Jay Z definitely has the best verse on the album, and "Light Up" is the best track. I like "Resistance" and they made "Shut It Down" and "Fireworks" a lot better with the reworking. "Fancy" is catchy, but will probably get annoying and old very quickly, though I like T.I.'s verse. Like the beat on "Up All Night". Production was solid on the album. Features didn't live up to the expectations, but Drake didn't even have the best verse on his own album. I'll continually bump it for the two or three tracks I like for the beats and the lyrics, but overall the album did not live up to the hype at all and it paves the way for J. Cole to have the better debut album of the two.
  5. I'll get to this album eventually. RPMs is definitely my favorite album to date, but The Roots and this album both could change that this month.
  6. Not a big fan of him, personally. Doesn't even stand out in his own class, IMO.
  7. Flow is off and I can't really pay attention to the lyrics enough because the production is so wack. The beat is very distracting and I can't stand it. Hopefully this isn't the CDQ and it'll get reworked some.
  8. Mos Def Fashawn Talib Kweli Black Thought Brother Ali MF DOOM J. Cole Celph Titled Blu
  9. Best song from the album thus far IMHO. Not a big fan of the hook, as you guys mentioned, but I thought his verses actually had some nice meaning to them.
  10. Yeah, the covers are nice. They make sense. Fairly creative.
  11. This. The album has no sense of direction. He loaded it with features and every song is more or less about the same thing -- money, hoes, how quick he rose. To make matters worse, his flow has been the same on so many songs, and his punchlines aren't that great anymore. Me being a big Weezy fan, I acknowledge that he has fallen so far off that it's really not even funny any more. I expected him to come harder with his verse considering that this is a track for his boy and there's other features on the album that could outdo Wayne's, but he didn't bring it. I would have some hope if he actually were to get that J. Cole + Lupe Fiasco bonus song, but Cole said he hasn't been sent anything from Drake. I expected more out of this.
  12. I don't think this is for TML. Jeezy's feature on the album is on a song called "Unforgettable", I believe, and the radio rip for it was released two days ago. Could be a bonus song, or the track list that was released may be wrong, but I don't see this being on TML especially when Drake's part was released a LONG time ago.
  13. VERY good song. Can't wait to hear the two joints with Blu on the album.
  14. On another note, The Roots album tracklist looks promising with some nice features including BLU. Fail.
  15. Rather Wayne when they were both in their prime, and I can tolerate Wayne more than 50 now mostly because he stays away from calling people out every 3 weeks. I don't think there's a rapper that gets on my nerves more than 50, and I was so glad Kanye beat 50 in his own challenge.
  16. I think I'll give Revolutions Per Minute a slight edge over Distant Relatives. Both are OUTSTANDING albums, but I simply like and can relate to more songs on RPM. "Ballad of the Black Gold" is an absolutely ill stand-out song, I agree with most of Kweli's lines on today's politics, and Hi-Tek somehow managed to be like the second or third producer to actually get my car's speakers to bump (haha). Distant Relatives is ill, too. "Patience" and "In His Own Words" are probably my favorite tracks with "Strong Will Continue", "As We Enter", "Tribal Wars", and "My Generation" all being solid as well. Definitely will be purchasing both of the albums some time this week when I get a chance to drop by Best Buy. I think the only ones I'm really looking forward to now are Recovery, J. Cole's debut, and The Ecology. I'll give Kanye and Drake's albums a chance, I suppose. Kind of have some hope for Kanye, but I don't like what I've heard from the Drake leaks. Then there's LASERS which I'm losing hope in by the day. Since the year started, J. Cole's album was the one I've looked forward to the most -- not because I expected the most out of it lyrically, but because he's my favorite artist. Liked what he had to say about the content of his album today in the Vibe interview. Dunno if Fashawn plans to drop The Ecology this year or not. He said he doesn't know right now, and I hope he doesn't drop it this year because it seems like it'd be kind of rushed with Boy Meets World dropping not all too long ago plus the two mixtapes he has dropping this summer.
  17. DLed the album leak a couple of days ago and I've been bumping it everywhere I go. haha. I've read where a lot of people were let down a little bit by Hi-Tek's production, but I thought it was still very good. "Ballad of the Black Gold" is just a work of art. "City Playgrounds", "Ends", "Strangers", "Just Begun", "So Good", and "In The Red", and "Get Loose" are all nice as well. I wish I could make it out to Best Buy tomorrow to purchase a hard copy of this and Distant Relatives tomorrow. I'll get both of them some time this week. GREAT stuff.
  18. Yeah, Relapse overall was pretty terrible, IMO, and it wasn't just the accent. He offered little meaning and substance throughout the majority of it. Wayne did used to be able produce songs with meaning or a story, but he really hasn't done that well since TCII. Only songs with much substance recently were "Tie My Hands" off TCIII, Paradice off "Rebirth", his featured verse on Nas & Damian Marley's "My Generation" off Distant Relatives, and maybe his featured verse off of Jae Millz's "In The City".
  19. Nah, it's not half of what it was. What it do do was put him on the map. I mean, just about all of my friends know who Drake is now especially with him being featured on Wayne songs. All it will take is a good single a week or two before the album release that has a similar buzz as "Best I Ever Had" and the album may put down absolutely huge numbers. This song will do solid in the mainstream, especially for the ladies. Keep in mind that he has some huge features on his album starting with Jay Z, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and I think Eminem is also on it. That alone will create a lot of buzz as we draw near to his release date. Unfortunately, this is actually one of the most anticipated debut albums of all time.
  20. Crabbylion, the only person Em is dissing in this song is himself. He's admitting his most recent album, Relapse, wasn't good, and he thought too highly of the accent he used on it. Simple but very good production, IMO. Great flow. Voice was back on point. Message was awesome, and the hook is amazing. Great stuff, great stuff. This week of hip hop has been absolutely amazing with this, J. Cole's single, B.o.B's album, Pac Div's mixtape, and the leaks from Distant Relatives. An "Under Pressure" drop from Dre tomorrow would be a nice cap to a great week.
  21. Hot track. Glad Weezy actually showed up with a good verse.
