The Nets have announced via Twitter that MarShon Brooks has "a broken little toe on his right foot. No timetable for his return". Brooks will see a foot specialist later Monday. Brooks tweeted "sigh" shortly the news was announced. He arrived at practice Monday morning with swelling in his toe. He was given an x-ray which revealed the fracture.

Meanwhile, Avery Johnson said that he doesn't expect Brook Lopez to return anytime soon. "He's not close. Not close. First of all, he has to start running..." Fred Kerber reported early Monday that his return may have to wait until after the All-Star Game, which is February 26. Deron Williams joked that Johnson, a New Orleans native, was practicing "voodoo" on the team.

Shaq had a broken toe too, and missed a lot of games

when Shaq missed it everyone was criticizing him,

when MarShon missed it people could care less

What?

It seems like another unlucky year. It's a shame if we lose Deron this summer because it would have been nice to see the lineup they created for this year play together and to judge what kind of roles players will have next year.

Was it already broken before the Raptors game last night or did he do it during the game?

Because I remember watching it thinking that something about him was off. I just attributed it to him being a rookie and having one of those "rookie games" where he just wasn't in it physically or mentally due to still getting used to the grind that is an NBA season.

He was already playing with an achilles issue, which is why he looked off from the start. He appeared to have broken his toe during the game.

[expletive] GOD DAMMIT!!!!

He's the only young guy on the Nets that really has serious potential to be something special. With Lopez's injury, I felt his sensational rookie play could have been the saving grace in a trade for Dwight. Oh well, I doubt this injury will have any long term effect, but it really sucks because he was the one promising bright spot for the Nets this season.

The last few games have said otherwise. The situation now is much better than the situations three weeks ago.

I disagree. Yes, the team is playing better, but that's because Williams has finally started to play like he cares. Morrow and Humphries are doing what they are being paid and expected to do, and the rest of the team doesn't show much upside. Brooks was the one guy who has shown a lot of promise in a year where the Nets won't be making the playoffs (unless they get Dwight and make a big run at the end of the season).

We're 2.5 games out with a beat up roster.

Morrow, Brooks, and Humphries have all been bright spots for a good amount of the season. And I still have my hopes up that Shawne will get somewhat back on track. Not to mention, J-Will is earning his playing time and making great use of it.

The Nets are just 2.5 games out, but the Knicks will eventually get it on track, the Bucks have really played good basketball as of late, the Celtics won't miss the playoffs, and the Cavs have played solid basketball all season. IMO there isn't much of a chance the Nets make it without Brooks, even when Lopez gets back.

Morrow is a good 3pt shooter, but not much else than a good role player. Humphries is on a one-year contract (I believe), so it's difficult to really get excited about him as far as the future goes. If the Nets don't get Dwight, Brooks is really the only player I'm really excited for as far as the future goes, especially since if there's no Dwight, there's no Deron.

I'm just thrilled to see some of these guys keeping things in check while we're short on talent.

As for Dwight, I'm as confident as ever.
