ORLANDO - The Jrue Holiday of the 2012 playoffs stuck around. Yes, it's only preseason, but Holiday's taking over the first half reaffirmed that he's elevated his game and the Sixers may be an improved shooting team with depth. The 4th-year point guard hit his first four shots and was 8-for-9 from the field in the first half, which ended when Holiday drove the lane for a buzzer-beating layup after coach Doug Collins called timeout to set up the play. He finished with 27, and the Sixers defeated the Magic, 102-95.

"I had it going," said Holiday, who averaged 15 points during last season's playoff run. "I came out aggressive and had open shots. After a while, the goal gets pretty big."

"Jrue was simply spectacular," Collins said. "His last three or four practices have been terrific. He's been playing with a lot of confidence. He shot the ball well, and penetrated to the rim. I'm very pleased." My link

Jrue Holiday had 11 points and 12 assists as the Philadelphia 76ers held on to beat the Brooklyn Nets 106-96 on Friday night. The 76ers led by as much as 12 points in the third quarter but Brooklyn cut it to 97-96 with 3:07 left in the game after a pair of free throws by Brook Lopez, who led the Nets with 23 points and nine rebounds.

Jrue missed the Preseason Finale. In his absence veteran guard J-Rich went 6-of-12 from beyond the arc, posting 23 pts, seven boards, six assists, a pair of steals, and a block in a 98-90 win over the Knicks. The game capped a preseason in which the Sixers won six of their seven contests.

Holiday Starts Season In Style

After having signed a 4-year, $41 million extension, Jrue Holiday tipped off the Sixers' 50th season with a double-double: 14 pts, 11 assists. The UCLA standout also added 6 boards and a pair of steals (41 mins).

“His basketball IQ is amazing. He can score at will, he’s smooth with the ball, [he plays great] defense, and he’s a willing passer. Give him three or four years, not even that, and he’ll be a top-five point guard.”

QUOTES:

Jrue Holiday is good at basketball.

"Now it's just me and Evan" as the key ballhandlers, Holiday said. "Coach kind of puts the ball in my and Evan's hands and expects us to make plays."

+ Injury update:

Holiday has missed the last two games with a sprained left foot. The Sixers' leading scorer at 18.4 points a game, he has been listed as day-to-day since he hurt his foot Wednesday against Chicago. He worked up a serious sweat in his session with McKie, then pronounced himself pain-free. Holiday said he would try to push it harder in the team's shootaround Tuesday morning in Dallas. He hopes to be available to play Tuesday night against the Mavericks. "It feels OK," Holiday said. "But this is a situation where it's my foot and it's probably one of the most important parts of your body. Not saying anything else isn't, but you can't do much if you can barely walk on your foot."

Can't wait for his comeback...
