Sixers guard Lou Williams underwent surgery this morning for a fractured jaw and will be out 8 weeks, the team announed.

Williams had his upper and lower jaws wired together after he was examined by team physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy and oral surgeon Alfred Wolanin. Williams will meet with a nutritionist in the coming days to review a liquid diet designed to assist him in maintaining his weight.

Sixers president/general manager Ed Stefanski was noncommital on whether he would look to add a guard to the roster.

''We are going to see,'' he said. ''We have versatility in the backcourt.''

The Sixers' roster stands at 13, with Williams and Marreese Speights (knee) unavailable. Ther NBA limit is 15, with a maximum of 12 active for any game.

Rookie Jrue Holiday made his first start in Wednesday night's loss in Boston.
