  1. With that said, the Red Sox lineup is going to be absolutely loaded, especially if they sign J-Dub too (ugh, the thought of that hurts). Adrian Gonzalez has a perfect Fenway Park swing, and for the first time in his career he will have legitimate protection. Just the thought of this is scary.
  2. Pretty sad for the Padres. They had a great season, but are now trading their best player (and a guy who is relatively local) for financial reasons. And IMO they didn't get nearly enough.
  3. Going to this. Which means the Sixers will probably win. 2-1 so far this season!
  4. Sounds like Adrian Gonzalez-to-Red Sox is getting very close.
  5. The outpouring of tweets about him is kind of crazy. His name is now on the US trending list. I knew he was a great writer, and from watching him on TV all those times he seemed like a great dude, but I honestly had no clue what kind of impact he had until now. Also, Rich Hofmann, perhaps my favorite current sports writer, absolutely nails the obituary. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/20101203_Phil_Jasner__Sixers_beat_writer__dies_at_age_68.html
  6. Nice of AI. And yeah, he was pretty big around here. He was a regular guest on the "Daily News Live" TV program that I have watched since I was a kid, so that's how I got familiar with him. All of his fellow writers have tons of respect for him.
  7. I think he was sending a message to Turner, who has been awful lately. In fact, I think the original plan was to start Nocioni, but for whatever reason Nocioni did not play at all tonight. I guess he got banged up in warmups or something, I haven't heard any updates. It was nice to see Turner play well off the bench though.
  8. This one stings. Normally, I haven't concerned myself with Sixers wins and losses this year, but I was really hoping they could pull this one out, especially with Phil Jasner passing away a couple hours ago. Absolute disaster of a game in a disaster of a season.
  9. It is as if the Sixers are trying to lose. This is super disappointing. The first half was so encouraging. Find a way to win this one for Phil Jasner .
  10. FYI, my favorite Phil Jasner memory will be how AI always sarcastically called him "Philip" in press conferences. Really funny.
  11. There should be a nice tribute to him in the paper at some point this weekend. Looking forward to it.
  12. Happy to see Jodie Meeks starting over Evan Turner. Enough of playing the lineups that they are "supposed" to play. I am happy that they are finally giving minutes to the guys who deserve them. Now if only there was a way to get Spencer Hawes completely out of the lineup...
  13. It might be a bit cheaper, but I think that depends more on his current club than Darvish himself. I dunno, I never get the impression that those Japanese teams are cool with giving us their talent without us paying a steep price.
  14. Also...Ron Santo died last night. Sad. RIP.
  15. I actually looked into getting tickets to that game, thinking maybe prices would be down with the Cowboys having a bad year and all. I was wrong . Got tickets to Eagles-Vikings instead (well, they were purchased for me as a Christmas present, but I picked the game....if I had the money myself I would have been there tonight with IllWill).
  16. Russell Martin non-tendered. Some other notable non-tendered guys, but I am about to pass out so I cannot think clearly enough to write a post about it. Martin the biggest though.
  17. We should have gone . Sorry Tabz. Except I am sick, sitting in that cold would not have helped!
  18. Never thought I'd see the day where losing Winston Justice is a devastating loss. He shut Mario Williams down tonight. Ugh.
  19. Colt Anderson has been REALLY good on special teams. Hell of a find.
  20. Well, the problem is that the healthy secondary is still pretty bad, with the exception of Asante and occasionally Mikell. For the most part, everyone has been super inconsistent. Allen has been terrible the last 5 or 6 weeks. The revolving door at the other CB spot (Hobbs, Patterson, Hanson) has been very bad also. Mikell has had his share of terrible games. Blah.
  21. I wonder what is worse. The Eagles red zone defense or red zone offense. Well, actually it is the defense no question, but still, both are kind of terrible right now.
