  1. Yeah it was a bit too expensive for my tastes as well, but the Twins absolutely had to lock him up. The fall out would have been worse than what it'd be in St. Louis if they let Pujols walk.
  2. I wouldn't count on it but you never know.
  3. Keeping with the Twins theme.... 8 years and $184 million for Joe Mauer. Had to figure it would happen at some point.
  4. Tommy John surgery for Joe Nathan. Ouch.
  5. Yesterday was the first time I saw David Herndon pitch (Rule 5 pick from the Angels). He looked filthy. His changeup looked really really good. Apparently Charlie Manuel and Rich Dubee like him a lot and he has a great chance of making the team.
  6. Went to the game. Sat in the usual upper level seats, but somehow managed to sneak around the obnoxious ushers and sit down in the lower level for the majority of the game. Too bad it was such a [expletive]ty game to watch up close. Jrue was one of the lone bright spots, as usual. Speights was good as well.
  7. No kidding the system is flawed, everyone realizes this. But the reason they are making an example out of Wisniewski is because he is an average player on a non-playoff team. And I have no problem with 8 games, I think he deserved it. The problem is the inconsistency with other suspensions.
  8. Haha I was driving to the airport on Weds night and drove past Wachovia Center right as the game was about to start. Drove past a car with about 5 Nets bumper stickers, and flags attached to the roof. 5 or 6 guys in Nets gear were packed into it. They were obviously traveling down for the game since they clearly had no clue where they were going. Props for traveling to see the Nets play, haha.
  9. This is their chance to make a "statement". Wisniewski is an average player on a team that will not make the postseason. It was a brutal hit and obviously deserved a lengthy suspension, but that is why they have been so inconsistent.
  10. Nope. And also, ECN were discussing this earlier, and the Ducks announcers might be the worst in the NHL. That was such a filthy hit and all they could say was "I think Seabrook was diving"? Terrible. The Pittsburgh Penguins announcers might give them a run for the money, though.
  11. From Frank Seravalli's Twitter.
  12. And Ron Washington has been managing on coke!
  13. Haha, that's pretty funny. David Wells threw a perfect game badly hung over.
  14. The entire thing is BS, obviously the trade makes absolutely no sense for the Cardinals. It makes just as little sense for the Phillies. And FYI Kyle Drabek is a Blue Jay.
  15. This is fantastic. Check out the Flyers goalie depth chart from just a few weeks ago. 1. Ray Emery (done for season) 2. Michael Leighton (hurt tonight..high ankle sprain) 3. Brian Boucher (appears to be the #1 for the time being) 4. Johan Backlund (currently in the AHL, injured in practice today) 5. John Grahame (was Backlund's backup in the AHL but was claimed by the Colorado Avalanche) 6 and on....????? So yeah, if Leighton is out for a while this team is [expletive]ed. There's some speculation that they might call up Nic Riopel (5th round draft pick last year) on one of those short term emergency deals.
  16. This is too easy. I'll be nice...
  17. Post of the year. Thanks for the laugh Warren.
  18. Well this game is off to a great start....down 3-1 halfway through the first period and Michael Leighton pulled out of the game with some sort of leg/knee injury (Brian Boucher gives up a weak goal on the first shot he faces). Also...the Predators goal chant: "He shoots. He scores. You suck". Really?
  19. I think he's probably close to ready now, just no room for him. But RF will be his when Werth leaves after this season. But it'd definitely be good to see him put up a nice, full season in AA/AAA to know he's ready for sure.
  20. Incredibly athletic and very fast as well. His hit that wasn't a HR was an infield single that he legged out, and he showed very nice range in RF and made a few nice catches.
  21. So far today: 3 hits, 1 walk, 4 RBIs, 2 homeruns (1 off Justin Verlander, the other off Phil Coke who is nasty on left handed batters). The best part is he will be re-assigned to minor league camp after the game since rosters need to be cut down.
  22. Yeah, I was just pointing out that I heard and I agree.
  23. I did hear that he consulted with Snider/Luukko and told them to keep Jordan around for the remainder of the season. And when you think about it, that makes sense. I see no purpose in firing the guy now, they have waited too long.
  24. The OPS argument is really the strongest one for Pujols (for once I agree with Fish...wtf??). A-Rod has OPS'd 1.000+ 6 times in his career. Pujols has done it 7 times....in 9 less seasons. A-Rod is amazing, as is Manny, but I can confidently vote for Pujols. Also, I hate using strikeouts as a reason to bring down a hitter, but it's worth noting that Pujols has never had 100+ strikeouts in a season, while A-Rod has struck out over 100 times all but 2 seasons (not counting the seasons he played fewer than 50 games).
  25. I dunno, I guess this is just a matter of opinion. Both absolutely dominate every column of the stat sheet, can't really make a convincing argument for one over the other, it's just a preference thing. The one clear thing Manny has going for him is that he's been doing it for a bit longer. The one thing that stands out to me with Pujols, when talking sheer freaky talent, is that as a 21 year old, he played a 161 game season and OPS'd over 1.000. The guy is just a freak (not that Manny isn't of course, but this has just always stood out to me). Can't really go wrong arguing for either guy though.
