NEW YORK -- Carmelo Anthony has told the Denver Nuggets he will not sign the nearly $65 million contract extension he has been offered unless he is traded to the New York Knicks, a source told ESPN.com on Sunday.

The source, using the most definitive language possible, confirmed what has been widely speculated around the NBA over the past two months as Anthony has been at the center of trade talks involving numerous teams.

And while other franchises might be able to make better offers, Anthony will not agree to sign anywhere long-term unless he is dealt to New York, according to the source, who has been privy to private discussions between Anthony, his representatives and the Nuggets organization.

The source spoke to ESPN.com after Denver's 129-125 loss to New York on Sunday afternoon as the Knicks won their eighth straight game.

Alright fellas. We just gotta accept the [expletive]ing fact it's gonna happen. A big 3 of Melo + Amar'e + CP3 is coming to plan. Maybe not as fast at the big 3 in Miami did but it's clearly happening that CP3 + Melo are going to NY to try to bring a title with Amar'e. This should be very fun now. A rivalry reborn with NY vs Miami.

Melo doesn't want to sign anywhere but NY and is apparently being honest about it.

Shame on him.

Its fine that he wants to sign in NY. He has the right to do so. That's not the roblem here. The problem I have is that he's letting it be known during the season that he wants nothing to do with Denver and that he's going to New York.

How do you figure to sign Chris Paul in 2 years with Melo and Amare on the roster already with their max contracts, especially considering this can only happen after the new Collective Bargaining Agreement?

If they get Melo, their chances of getting Chris Paul or any other superstar will probably be reduced to 0%. We don't know what the cap is going to be like next offseason but if Amare and Melo are taking up $35-40 million of it every year there won't be a lot of wiggle room.

That's why the CBA is so important. There are going to be major changes in the new agreement and that was before the Heat pulled off what they did. There probably won't be a mid-level exception or the exceptions they do have will be much smaller. And the salary cap will most likely be significantly smaller. Owners are going to push really hard to reward teams that drafted players and prevent Gm's from building superteams like Riley did this past summer.

It isn't affecting his play on the court, he still plays his heart out every night for Denver.

Whether or not he'll accept an extension midseason with any team but NY is his MO, maybe he doesn't want to commit long term somewhere he doesn't want to be?

he never really had a choice, dude. he's been offered an extension by Denver on several occasions and has rejected it as many times. at some point, he was going to have to tell Nuggets management that he wanted out. I respect him a lot more for this because he's letting them know that he doesn't have a future in Denver. if he kept quite, he would just leave this summer and the Nuggets would get nothing. at least this way, they could facilitate some type of deal and get something for Melo.

Knicks are obviously really interested for Melo. He could team up with the multiple all star Amare Stoudemire who is having a hell of a year and also with Felton who is having a career year! But Bobcats might have a chance because MJ is pushing it to get Melo right now

^ They will find a way I know it. That CP3 trade demands will be coming is so fast as soon as Melo is gone. That toast a Melo's wedding didn't happen for no reason. Amar'e + Melo + CP3 is gonna happen wether we like it or not.

Just because players would like to team up with other stars, it doesn't mean it will be feasible. What happened this summer with Pat Riley and Miami was the perfect storm. It doesn't happen if the cap doesn't play out the way it did.

If stars really want it they will do it wether it be pay cuts like Wade & LeBron took this summer or a trade demand or what if stars want it they will get it.

Fail attempt at trolling Melo, at least he's allowing his team the chance to deal them and giving them the heads up he's leaving instead of playing with their emotions all year and then having it all come down to a week where he says nothing and then breaks their hearts on National TV.

Trolling Melo? I wasn't trolling at all just being honest. That's fine that he doesn't wanna be in Denver, but don't let it become obvious and keep it within the organization. At least LBJ gave Cleveland a chance to make moves and heard their pitch to him during the summer.

I don't wanna turn this into an LBJ/Melo/Knicks thread. I just think its a bit unprofessional on Melo's part to basically letting it be known that he's going to NY next year.

Chris Paul has handled his situation better than any of these guys btw.

Paul's got two years left, wait until next year to make that declaration :)

Trade rumors have already been swirling about him though and he's done everything he can do shut them down and keep everything and all the discussions internal with New Orleans.

This situation isn't like the Heat one this past season because we have no idea what the CBA will look like. Assuming the Knicks pick up their 2011-12 options on Gallinari ($4.19M), Randolph ($2.91M), Walker ($916K), and Douglas ($1.15M) this summer, they are looking at having $43 million committed to eight guys. Exactly how would Melo and CP3 fit into all this?

 What are you talking about? There were rumors that he was almost demanding a trade at one point during the offseason last year and at Carmelo's wedding he's the one that game up with the idea of them forming their own 'big 3'.

Yes, but he can't dictate where he wants to go via trade or speculate where he's going to go via free agency because he isn't an impending free agent. You didn't hear a word from LeBron or Melo with two years left either.

At least we're hearing things "supposedly" from Melo's mouth.. Le[expletive] left Cleveland with them thinking he was going to re-sign with them. What did they get? They got a broken heart.. I mean Melo could least tell Denver to trade him so they get something in return rather than leave Denver with nothing in return.

All those rumors were basically shot down and at this point no one has talking about CP3 moving teams for a while.

Its also one thing to demand a trade, which has been time plenty of times by players. But its another to basically let everyone know that you're going to a different team next year and letting it go public.

Lol, what did he do that made it seem obvious that he would re-sign with Cleveland? He heard everyone's proposal and when Bosh said he wouldn't go to Cleveland Miami became the clear choice. If anything, he was Cleveland's to lose.

Also, in regards to CP3, all those rumors were basically hearsay at that point and absolutely nothing has come out of any of them. That tells me all I need to know.
