2011 Philadelphia Eagles

Shouldn't you be pissed at the Giants for not bringing him back? They had every chance, from what I have read.

I am mad at the Giants.

But for Steve Smith to go to a division rival aka the Miami Heat.... you can't really blame me for hating him.

No, I'm not mad at the Giants at all. $4M, with $2M guaranteed is honestly a ton of money for a guy fresh off microfracture and with a 4+ game missed possibility looming.

It's a good deal for the Eagles if he performs in the 2nd half, but not something I'm going to blame the Giants for passing on.

This move is a little surprising. I guess I understand why Giant fans are upset, but I'm willing to bet the Eagles were the only team out there remotely interested in him, and probably offered him more money than anybody else. I thought I read somewhere that Smith's injury was career threatening (not 100% sure) but knowing the Eagles and their past, they are willing to take on low risk high reward type gambles with player injuries.

Also, the Eagles just signed and payed more money to an injured receiver than Desean Jackson will earn this year. He can't be too happy about that, but I'm certain the two sides are working on a new deal. Hopefully they'll get something done or else it's certainly a slap in the face.

Jeremy Maclin cleared to play after a cancer scare. Fantastic news.

He was very sick for a lot of the offseason though, between this and mono. A guy at work says he and Maclin work out at the same gym (or, they did during the lockout at least), and he looks terrible. Lots of weight lost. The important thing is that he is evidently OK, but I am wondering how long it will take him to get into "game shape".

Also interested to hear the Eagles "statement" later tonight.

Yikes Maclin losing lots of weight? lol, he was small to begin with, this team can be completely dominated by good physical corners, I just wonder if anyone is ballsy enough to get up in D Jax and Maclins kitchen because if you let em by it's over.

btw I realized Jackson only caught 47 balls last year (roughly less than 4 a game) incredible how over rated he is, sure he is the premier deep threat in the NFL but wow. Maclin was the possession guy catching like 80+ better hope he's good to go.

This is a decent article talking about the Desean hype train from Grantland: http://es.pn/ofUOcc

I knew right when I read this article that this bum wrote for Football Outsiders before. It's no wonder that article absolutely sucked.

First in ypr and 12th in total yards. Right, he's completely overrated. Unless you think he's Jerry Rice, I don't see how he's overrated.

He's over rated when people call him a top 5 WR and such. Jackson is lucky to have been paired with long ball specialist like McNabb and Vick for his career.

Honestly, I don't know many people who would consider him top five. Personally, I think he's a top five most dangerous offensive threat in the NFL, and could become a top 5 WR.

1st in drop %, 47th in catch rate. He's a phenomenal athlete and game breaker, but a mediocre receiver (I think Phightins will agree with this, watching him weekly).

Article was well written, provided statistical analysis, and had a well delivered message.

The only WR's I would take over him without hesitation:

Calvin Johnson

Andre Johnson

Larry Fitzgerald

Roddy White is overrated, Wayne is getting old, Jennings isn't better, and Austin is a one hit wonder.

lol @ this post

Roddy White 4 straight season of 80+ catches 1150+ yards, yet over rated.

Miles Austin a 1-hit wonder yet had back to back 65+ catch 1000 yards+ seasons, 1 with a back up QB playing half the games.

I'll easily take all 7 of the WR's you just named over D Jax.

I enjoy watching Desean play and I think he is very good. But I think Jeremy Maclin is better and will have a much better career (if he can stay healthy).

Eagles fans overrate him more than anybody...
