With the ineffectiveness of Davis, and the solid play recently from Mike Bibby, Should Bibby start?

Here's an article from the NY Times. Can't say I disagree...

The Case for Starting Mike Bibby

By KEITH SCHLOSSER

Mike Bibby started at point guard as the Knicks played the Nets on Wednesday, filling in for the ill Baron Davis. It was just his second start of the season.

It’s unfortunate that it has taken this long (even with Jeremy Lin out with an injury) for Bibby to receive another look.

In New York’s 118-108 victory over the Celtics on Tuesday, Bibby came up in the clutch, efficiently dishing out six assists while committing no turnovers.

Though Bibby received the start by default on Wednesday because Davis was unavailable, his 27 quality minutes against the Celtics the night before should have been enough for him to earn the nod on his own.

Nevertheless, Bibby’s second consecutive strong outing in the Knicks’ 104-95 defeat of the Nets only helped make the case for him to take over starting duties on a regular basis.

After all, it is nearly impossible for Bibby to do worse than any of the alternatives. Davis has not only failed to show any flashes of the player the Knicks had once hoped he’d be, but furthermore, drags the team down whenever he plays.

Davis has struggled to take advantage of the chance to become a celebrated playmaker in New York. His inability to get teammates the ball and find them in the right spots only proves he cannot succeed as the Knicks’ floor general. And the offensive game of Knicks players like Amar’e Stoudemire, Steve Novak and Landry Fields depends on a player who is efficient at running the floor.

This is where there is an opportunity for Bibby. Explosiveness is not necessary for a Knicks starting point guard, and Bibby certainly plays at a slow tempo offensively. But after running Coach Mike Woodson’s offense as a member of the Hawks from 2008 to 2011, Bibby might be the best man to pace the Knicks.

As Davis’s stock continues to plummet, Bibby is giving the Knicks a taste of how an effective point guard can elevate his play. He not only scored 8 points and had a team-high 8 assists in Wednesday’s win, he also committed only one turnover. What’s more, Bibby earned a plus/minus rating of +13, further showing he is able to help his team build or maintain a strong lead. He was on the court for a season-high 36 minutes.

Though he converted just three of 10 shot attempts, Bibby displayed promise in his jump shot, which did not appear flat. A number of the guard’s attempts rattled in and out of the basket, and most of his missed shots were high-percentage looks.

Bibby is impressing at just the right time. With four games left in the regular season, the Knicks have nothing to lose by giving him an audition as a starter. A playoff veteran, Bibby has a chance to succeed and to provide his team with an injection of life heading into the postseason. Should he fail, however, the team would still have time to regroup before the playoffs.

Giving Bibby a starting nod now could be a low-risk, high-reward move for the Knicks.

I wasn't arguing with you

arguing

Give reasons or cite evidence in support of an idea, action, or theory, typically with the aim of persuading others to share one's view.

I don't see why not, if anything it's competition to Baron which he needs to know the lack of effort and ability he displays night to night won't cut it.

Don't see why not considering the alternative

tee hee

Should the Knicks rest Carmelo Anthony?

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/knicks/post/_/id/17438/opening-tip-should-knicks-tank-for-8th

Mike Woodson gave Tyson Chandler the day off on Sunday. Is it time to give Carmelo Anthony a breather?

Of course, the Knicks are still trying to win games. And Anthony hasn't said he'd like a day off, like Chandler did before Sunday's game against the Hawks.

But Anthony's played an awful lot lately.

So is it more important to have him fresh for the playoffs? Or do you want him on the floor as the Knicks posture for seeding?

Philadelphia and New York are both sitting at 34-30 but the Knicks hold the tiebreaker based on head-to-head match ups.

So the Knicks need to at least keep pace with Philly down the stretch to secure seventh place. They also have a remote shot to get to sixth, if Orlando loses out and the Knicks win out.

Having Anthony on the floor would obviously help their cause in either pursuit.

But he's played a season-high 37 minutes per game this month. And He's played 40 or more minutes in six of the Knicks' 11 April games.

Which brings us to our question: Do you think the Knicks would benefit from giving Anthony a rest? Or should he continue to play major minutes for the rest of the year?
