Why are people for taxing the rich?

Because most of the rich make money, not earn it.

The top 1% of the rich in the US has more money than the bottom 95% of the US alone. That's a gross fact.

THAT is what's hurting the economy. It's the 95% that need to barely get by every day on the food they eat, walking instead of purchasing gas, using less electric, going as long as they can without heat...while the small 1% are those who spend, spend, spend.

The guy who busts his ass drilling for oil every day should be earning more money than the guy sitting in the cold office, calculating how much oil is being drilled.

The economy has been crippled for a while now. The war didn't help. Illegals flooding the US didn't help. Once things got bad, it's the rich who decided to steal even more money, demand more pay, and in turn, crush the working man's way of living even more.

um, no, anyone can get obtain the skill set or whatever for a simple job like that, but the guy in the office has brains, which isn't something you can just get.

So it's a simple job?

Going to college for four years and planning for your oil rig is a simple job. Give me that every single day of the week.

I'm a computer technician, and I'm glad. I get paid more per hour than my dad, sometimes, who is an electrician, but my ass doesn't sweat or work like he does...and I'm thankful for that...just don't agree that I should be making more.

Rich tycoons don't deserve half of the money they make. Hell, teachers go to college for 5-6 years, and they bring home $30-50,000 a year, and they do MORE than the oil tycoon.

It's the business that they are in. These guys that work under them, like slaves, do the dirty work, while the tycoons hire/fire, spin their pencils, and worry about projected earnings and profits at the end of every month. Good for them. Tough, tough life they have.

^It's why life isn't that easy or simple. Remember you don't work hard, you work smart.

There are reasons why people who work hard work for people who work smart. People who work hard work for money, while money works for people who work smart.

If all people who work hard get rich, life's so easy.

Besides, getting rich doesn't only require smart, hardwork, it only requires luck and opportunities. While you can't go after luck, you can sense and grab opportunities.

People are jealous, having a successful business means that you are intelligent and pretty much smart, you'd have to know how the economy works, how to start a business and all that other stuff. Rich people donate a lot of money, look at Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, donate BILLIONS and they are just succesful and dont do much work.

America is a capitalist society, capitalism gives more money based on education, cleaning toilets is a dirtier job than being a manager, but a manager helps run a store which gains tons of money. Working in businesses or starting your own is where the money is at.

Then why do teachers make as much as designers, yet some designers go to school two years less?

There are teachers in Kansas that make $30,000 a year. There's also a secretary at a refinery I used to work at that makes $16/hr. and 40 hours a week, with just an associate's degree. That's $33k a year gross pay.

Things need to change. They never will...but they need to.

Teachers dont work in businesses, designers do. People who work in businesses like secretaries, designers, etc. make more money because the place they work in is based on profits.

So, in other words, it's not based on education at all, it's based solely on profits.

And that's why the country is near broke. Profits. That's where it all started with CEO's, and that's where it will all end with businesses.

A ton of jobs being lost in this area are based on hard labor. Manpower, which is a company that hires workers for other companies (an employment service), went from a couple hundred or so hired to about six total, in my hometown.

The funny thing about all of this is that there's also a secretary about 20 miles away that works at Spears Manufacturing, the country's largest manufacturer of plastic fittings, and she makes more than some of those journeyman electricians.

Same can be said for an office manager at Sherwin Williams paint factory, who is making more than someone I know that stirs paint the entire time he's at work.

Same can be said for the receptionist at Amazon.com's distribution center in Coffeyville, who is making as much as my uncle was when he was working in the shipping and loading departments.

No excuses. The country is a mess because of stuff like this. It doesn't matter if the business is a grocery store or Amazon.com, it's all wrong.

Well capitalism has its weaknesses and recessions is one of the biggest negatives about it, same with unemployment and homelessness. America is based on businesses, everything you like and watch is a business, the NBA is a business, Wal-Mart is a business and Pornography is a business. In pornography they know idiots who would pay 20$ a month to watch 2 people hit it off. There is a reason more known female pornstars make 1000$ for a 20 minute scene.

This is the reason why America has so many rich and its because theres a lot of middle class people who buy their stuff.

You are bit of a leftist when it comes to economic issues, if the average earning for an american is 47,000, you'd defenitely be happy with all americans earning that annually. But capitalism lets us choose where we want to be, some get lucky, some dont, some end up bankrupt.

Communism is more simple, its defenitely demonized by Americans because it goes against american values.

Communists beileve in dictatorship, no religion and spread the wealth while America is sort of a religious, democratic, etc. You get what I am trying to say. There is no such thing as a pure marxist society, a trashman doesnt make the same amount as a doctor and a janitor doesnt make as much money as a lawyer. The only communist elements that the Soviet Union and all the other Communist powers had was dictatorship, 100% employment, free healthcare, no religion, etc. There is a reason most of the countries who were portrayed as communist are really infact socialist countries.

It's not about everyone making the same salary. I wouldn't want that. I'm simply stating that raises for the rich should be matched by raises for the middle class, or scrap it entirely, and the same should be applied for taxes, as income increases, so do taxes.

In addition to that, salaries need to be "re-configured" somewhat.

Since the NBA was brought up, we can go from there. Back in the early 1990's, a typical salary for a superstar was around $2-4 million. In 1996, Jordan's salary was boosted to $30 million a year. Today, that $4 million is now less than the MLE.

In that time, I never saw salary increases on that scale for anyone BUT the rich.

As the old saying goes, the rich became richer, and the poor became poorer. It's the perfect ingredient for a failed economy. I don't care about the Soviet, Indonesia, Canada, France, Mexico, wherever...the concern is the states, and trying to duplicate another country, past or present, isn't going to fix the problem we are in.

We need to go back to the tax system for the top 2% richest in the U.S. under the Bill Clinton era. It seemingly worked well because the economy was pretty solid and consistent under Clinton.

You dont have to duplicate another country but you can learn from their mistakes.

Brandon, it's pretty simple.

It's called the chain of command and that is how everything works.

The difference of salary between a secretary and a teacher has absolutely nothing to do with a chain of command, as neither are related to each other in any fashion.

Sure, it makes sense that a Principal would earn more than a teacher, and a teacher would earn more than a substitute, but that's not what the discussion is about.

Different types of jobs earn different types of money, and when you dig into it, it's to benefit the rich man. There's no way around it. The rich continue to get richer, which just forces everything and everyone else to fall into place...and that place is lower middle class, and lower class.

It makes no sense that you think that an owner or CEO shouldn't be making a lot more than their employees.

If everyone at McDonald's was making more money than a CEO, there would be something seriously wrong with this world.
